auburnmom09, good luck to your daughter!
|
I am in no position to be an authority on Auburn rush but I do happen to have a couple of daughters in the Greek system. The report today was that the heat and the stress of rush took it's toll on a few girls who ended up falling ill. I hope that if any pnm's are reading this the please, please drink plenty of fluids. I can't emphasize this enough. Also, don't skimp on eating a healthy breakfast, your body needs the nourishment to cope with the stress and you will feel better if your tummy isn't rumbling and you don't feel light headed. I heard that a few girls passed out today, don't let this happen to you!
|
it seems to happen every year. pnms, no matter where you are rushing, heed awkward1's advice on fluids and food.

Any other anxious moms out there?
I am here on pins and needles! My daughter has fainted a few times in the past when she gets too hot, but fortunately she did just fine yesterday. |
Wish your daughter an amazing week and best of luck. I hope her dreams come true!^^
I also wish for lots of strength and support on your end. Keep us posted! |
I am at Auburn volunteering (working) during recruitment. I am sure your daughter's Pi Chi gave her this advice but you may want to suggest she bring an umbrella in her bag. She can use it for shade now and for protection for the rain (which is supposed to be coming later today). The girls are allowed to carry bags around with all of their gear and their Pi Chi's watch the bags while they are in each party. I noticed a few girls doing this yesterday.
Whoever mentioned the air-conditioned hallways in the sorority dorms is correct; however, for some reason the Pi Chi's aren't bringing the girls inside while they wait. I don't know the reason for this; maybe Panhellenic won't allow them to. I did hear rumor that shade tents were supposed to be provided by Panhellenic but they were not there yesterday. Good luck to your daughters... I saw all of the PNM's yesterday and they were so cute! Keep us posted as they days go on. Greek Chat is a good place for nervous Mom's. We've all been there and we can help you through the process! |
I am so excited to see the new facilities! I am going over to help on Thursday morning and then again on Friday for Prefs.

Good luck to the new class of PNM moms. I was in your shoes last year and I KNOW how anxious you all are this week - best of luck to your girls. I talked to my girl this morning and it is hot an humid as per usual.
The parking area is far away from the village and she forgot her name badge in the car and had to put on an extra shirt to cover her letters and trek back to her car and get her name badge - and hurry before the 1st party! She called me along the way and said she was a hot sweaty mess and was just going to put her hair up, I laughed and said 'bet you don't ever forget your name badge again huh?' She's having a lot of fun this week, so busy but still enjoying it, I enjoyed hearing all about it last night. And I don't know if its been mentioned elsewhere but I didn't see it in this thread, she said there were 1109 girls rushing, thats down a little bit from last fall but not much. Best of luck to everyone - War Eagle! |
What I love the most about Auburn recruitment is the fact that all of the school's chapters are so strong. There was one chapter that was typically smaller than the others but last year they went all out and made quota! There is very little disparity between the chapters and if you were to ask 10 different people to rank the sororities you would get 10 completely different answers. There just does not seem to be a cut and dried tier system at Auburn and I think that makes rushing that much more exciting! The PNM's can really concentrate on where they feel at home and they don't have to worry so much about being in a top/bottom tier sorority. It can also make ranking at the end of the day very difficult because there are so many good ones to choose from. Each and every sorority has pretty girls, not so pretty girls, thin girls, large girls, athletic girls, academic achievers, musicians etc. You really can't go wrong at Auburn, you really can't.

AuburnMom08, I was just reading through your old posts, and I remembered seeing you post here last year. I hope you don't mind me asking, but looking through your posts, we never got to hear a conclusion to her story--did she end up going through COB? Did she do colony recruitment with Theta? :)
|
She has an umbrella and a battery operated fan to help keep her a little cooler. She had great things to say about all of the chapters she met yesterday and was excited to go back and meet the rest of them today. She is a big fan of GC so I think she will be realistic about tomorrow's cuts.
|
lovespink - Yes, she accepted a bid in ?? November or December from one of her original favorites. It wasn't Theta, I wonder how they are doing? I actually forgot all about them but I believe a local girl we know went Theta.
Ice water teas are officially over. Good luck to the PNMs. |
Hijack - lovespink - did you go to Univ of Illinois? I was just there Friday for a college visit with my son - he's a high school senior and interested in Engineering. We were very impressed with everythong we saw but - dang - the campus is HUGE!!!!!
PS I was so excited to see the Gamma Phi house there - it is beautiful and right smack dab in the middle of campus it seems! |
Well looks like we survived ice water teas.....I understand the computers crashed and it took forever for them to finish the computer selections for the girls. I have heard horror stories from a couple of active members that girls have gotten messed up by computer glitches that didn't pair them up like they requested....I really hope that is not true!

THIS. Alot of times, "computer glitch" stories are recruitment urban legends or rumors. It's pretty rare to have problems with the software, unless your school has NEVER used it and they're clueless about how it works. The Auburn peeps are probably pros at using it, so it's not likely that they'll have problems. |

I recommended several this year--can't wait to get the news from first parties!!!

You visit every sorority. They serve you water with lemon or other little things. Hence the term "ice waters." |
Sorry to continue the hijack, maybe I should just bump that "Rushing at U of I" thread that I know is around here somewhere...

Yes, the campus is HUGE, which gets to be a drag come winter. But luckily for the most part your classes don't get too spread out. In the case of your son, for example, most of his classes would be together on the Engineering Quad. I'm glad to hear you guys liked it! Best wishes to him if he applies, it's a FANTASTIC school for engineering! Oh, and the Gamma Phi Beta house is beautiful at U of I--I think it's one of the prettiest houses on campus! And like perfectinpurple said... Quote:

Okay, on with Auburn!! |
I have to continue the hijack...
Kams = disgusting. I went once and I will never go back unless I'm forced! My dad wanted to go to Kams last time he visited me and the first thing he said was "It hasn't changed since I was here!" lovespink88, I'm only disappointed that I probably wont get the chance to see the inside of your new house!! You'll have to post some pictures in the "sorority/fraternity house" thread. Ok, now we can end the hijack :) |

Auburn uses ICS, which after years of being out on the market is utterly fool proof right about now. When I was Panhel President we had the Panhel VP of Recruitment "accidentally" hit "some button" and wiped out all PNM & chapter selections. HOWEVER, the folks at ICS use way complicated programs and all of the information was backed up. So the likelyhood of any REAL computer glitches at ANY campus that uses ICS is, IMHO, impossible. |

Like I said before, "computer glitches" are typically recruitment rumor or urban legend. It's always something crazy like "I heard that I was supposed to be invited back to Alpha, but there was a computer glitch and it erased my name." Nope. Doesn't happen. |

I can't remember the specifics, but I remember hearing from one of my I/O's there were some sort of massive computer problems and I'm pretty sure it was last year. I'll check with her when I talk to her next.
|
;) Ya know, our little U of I hijack actually does tie in to Auburn - they both have blue and orange for school colors, right? :p:p:p
Anyways, I am just dying to hear how things went today - I wrote a lot of recs (including one for a gal referred to me by Carnation)! |
can't wait to hear some auburn updates.
|
We had a computer issue last year, but it wasn't because of ICS. It was that during recruitment, the IT services took the network down for updates. The issue was fixed once Greek Life finally got ahold of IT!
|
oh my gosh-IT guys never seem to have very good timing!
|
I don't remember and I haven't heard from my daughter yet but I will ask her when she calls. :)
If yours is tired of the hectic schedule tell her to just wait til next year lol. |
Got a text from my daughter. She has a full schedule of her "top twelve." She's glad to be in a t-shirt and shorts and comfy shoes today. They can visit up to seven chapters for skit round.
|
AuburnMom08- remind your daughter that she isn't "cutting" chapters. She is just ordering them by preference. The problem that PNMs get into is that they start thinking "Why does this chapter keep asking me back? I already cut them." They haven't cut anyone. All the ordered list does is give Panhel a way to decrease the number of invitations for PNMs who are invited back to more chapters than they can return to in a day.

The young lady I wrote a rec for is glad to be in comfy shoes today, too! She has enjoyed the whole process so far and likes all the groups. I don't know any details, but I'm pretty sure she had a full schedule yesterday. Her mom hasn't been able to talk to her in detail because something is wrong with her daughter's computer and her daughter didn't want to text all that info about 12 GLOs. Her roomie situation kind of took precedence in the communication arena over a happy recruitment. :p
|
AOII Angel, Thanks don't think I understand that clearly so I am the one who interpreted it as "cut" sinceas I recall from when I went through Rush we did indeed cut them and not go back there. So if she "ranked" them in the bottom five and then 2 others that were ranked say bottom 6th and bottom 7th did not invite her back how many parties will she have to go to? She was hoping not to have to go to the full 12 parties as she is certain several of those 12 aren't a fit for her.
