als463 -- No no no. I wasn't implying any interest in Chi Omega or Phi Mu. The 'xo' did mean hugs and kisses, not meant to be taken as Greek letters.

& No, I'm not saying I am any better than all of you for saying "I have a life" I just mean with what the majority of you are saying, is that I am clearly stupid and need to read all of the other threads. I'm not saying that just because you reply to a thread means that you don't have a life. I meant that I don't have all the time in the world to devote to reading hundreds of threads.

Sorry.

I'm going to be nice and give you the same advice I give most girls who are your age and interested in recruitment:

*Keep your grades up. You don't have a chance in the world at most schools with poor grades. This is doubly true with SEC schools. The higher, the better.

*Start thinking about who could write your recs. You don't need to approach them now, but start making a list in your head for next year.

*Read as much as you can on this site. Seriously. It's some of the best advice ever and it's free. Doesn't mean you have to sit and read it all day. But between now and freshman year, you have plenty of time.

*If you have a Facebook/MySpace/Twitter, I would suggest starting now with really paying attention to what you put up there. Before you put anything on any of those sites, ask "would I want sorority members/future employers/etc to see this?" It's good practice for college and beyond.

Thank you, KSUViolet06.

Again, general questions will yield general answers.

Like violetpretty mentioned already, it's interesting that you've read threads so you know that some newbies get pounced on for asking silly questions and being rude, and yet you didn't read any of the content.

There are TONS (and I mean TONS) of threads about preparing for recruitment - even specifically for SEC schools - and yet instead of searching for (search feature!) & reading them, a new thread was posted asking for very general advice.

There are a few who have already given you advice on what to do between now and then:
* don't flunk out of school
* have a great GPA
* polish your resume
* community service

There's not a lot else besides that.

Can these stickies be made into automated PMs when a newbie signs up? Or block their posting abilities until they check in on a particular forum?

Cause yes, the answers are there, clearly. But there should be some reprimand for newbies (and I mean newborn newbies, 10 posts or less) asking the same ol "my situation is so unique but can you give me general advice for when I rush in 2037?"

Or maybe like Yahoo Answers, where when you type a question, and similar questions that have been asked/answered show up before you post?

Yours in being solution oriented (cause all the elements of a trainwreck is here, including edited OP and lane swerving),

Meant advice from ANYONE WHO HAS RUSHED. What pre-requisites helped them in the process? Did they get a bid yet not join? (i.e,: "weren't a part of one") Seriously. I'm not trying to sound snooty at all, just from previous browsing of the GC forums I see that newbies are the targets of jokes/rude comments (much like I am getting now!) And I just wanted to set a straight forward question while trying not to get the rude, idiotic comments directed to me being associated as a newbie.

For those of you who have left nice comments, thank you. I appreciate your .2 cents.

& for those of you who don't, I don't really care.

Thanks.

Ps: By me saying that "I have a life" I'm not implying that all of you don't have lives by being associated with the GC posts/threads. From some of the comments that I have received have been directed to me being dumb and that I need to read the forums. I meant by saying "I have a life" by meaning that I don't have all day to devour the hundreds of threads on this board.

Oh, thanks tld221.

I rarely re-read original posts.

Wow, I never really paid attention to that post script.. lol

My advice? Read my signature.

I do mean this in this nicest way possible: No one will care what is on your resume if you can't spell basic words.

When I first read the original post, I thought, "Who is it that has the signature discussing "a part" and "apart"? :p

If you only read one thread, the General Advice thread is very comprehensive and informative. Check it out, and if you have more specific questions, ask away. It's the "general advice" people come looking for compiled by adpiucf into one thread, and it even has a labeled sections so you can find what you are looking for. Pretend like you asked the question on that thread and adpiucf answered you on that thread. Viola, your general advice.

You don't need "all day" to read the hundreds of threads. No one is insinuating that you read "hundreds" of threads. The general advice thread is one of the "stickies" on the Sorority Recruitment forum. The stickies are called such because they are important, so if you're feeling ambitious, read the other 3 stickies. No one said you have to read everything in one day, especially when you have more than 730 days until you go through recruitment. I'm sure even the busiest girl could find time between now and then.

Agreed.

Also, anytime I start a new thread to ask a question, I make it a point not to get my panties in a wad if someone posts a link to other threads in which that particular issue has already been discussed.

I'm so confused. Isn't there a lovespinkxo who is fairly new too? We need a greater diversity of usernames like "PuceIsTheShiznit" and such.

To the OP: get involved in activities you really like, not just with an eye towards what will look best on your resume. In other words don't tailor everything you do towards an SEC rush. Things might change a LOT by the time you get to college and you might not get accepted by an SEC school, or you might find an Ivy League school you love, or you might get knocked up and not even go to college. My point is do things you really want to do in HS, as well as keeping your grades up.

Oh and don't use the term frat. Many find it offensive.

Out of all the new PNMs posting here, we have:

PinkPalmTree
foreverinpink

We also have lovespink88 (AZD at Illinois).

So I can see where it gets confusing.
