I like to read the retro rush threads during lunch. They are great entertainment. And, as a non-NPCer, I can never tell when a poster has made up her story. So, for me until she is called out, I really enjoy the story.
I've learned more about NPC recruitment from GC than I ever did at Texas A&M. I had NPC friends, but they never went into any detail about the rush process. When I was at Texas A&M all I heard was 'Yeah, I rushed, got a bid to XYZ and now I am a member.' On GC I've learned more about the entire process from rec letter to bid. So maybe for some of you NPC ladies its more like 'Aw, c'mon!!!:rolleyes:' because you have been through the process yourselves. But for me, it's like 'Wow, that's a different way to recruit.' |

Something tells me there was more to it than that. Like maybe he got a bid? ;) So yes...I'd like to know more about fraternity recruitment...expansion too, because from what I understand, the process for fraternities is very different than how NPC expansion works. |

Thank you. Really folks, retro recruitment threads were cool like 3 summers ago when people who ACTUALLY posted here were doing them. Now they're just posted by randoms who come here just to get attention. And I HATE when people ask "Who wants to hear my recruitment story?" A certain GCer got upset because a girl deleted her retro story after she asked that and I honestly said "NO. I'm over them." I'm sorry. They're lame and I'm over them. Is it ACTUAL LIVE recruitment season yet? |

Oh, and I died when I read that line about the "GC Kitchen" |

The number of fraternities is irrelevant. What I said was that guys will narrow down the list which makes for a less exciting story than formal recruitment where you see every chapter and the field is narrowed down each day. As to fraternity rush being less structured...duh. |
Oh, for heaven's sake. I agree with Anchor Alum and violetpretty. If you don't like them, don't read them. There are bigger problems in the world - and if you don't have anything more pressing to worry about, I envy you!

I'm amazing, I know. Thanks. ETA to everyone in general: GC is so fucking anal retentive lately. I remember when the H&A, Rudey, Cashmoney, etc. used to post. You might not have agreed with them. You could even start a whole thread about how you disliked them. But, you weren't so fucking uptight that you suggested everyone hold hands and sing songs about rainbows, ponies, and getting along. Hell, dealing with Earp was even better than dealing with the dumbasses that have joined in the past year or two. The thread was started to deal with an issue I (and others) find to be important. The stories are getting more and more "out there" and fake. People are posting shit from 20 years ago that they can barely remember. And, like KD said, if it's people who are regular, known members it is one thing. But, people are crawling out of the woodwork to post stories that are ridiculously long who have really no connection to GC. And, I would like to take this opportunity to educate those who seem to be new to GC... This is place where you are free to talk about anything. And, if you do, I am allowed to laugh at it, parody it, or just bitch about it. Like y'all have mentioned -- if you don't like it, ignore it. You're no better than I am for coming in and adding your two cents. |

What threads are you reading? I will admit that I'm of the if-you-don't-like-it-don't-read-it mindset and I think I always have been. If that make me Kitchen GC, that's cool. I wasn't on here when GC was cool, so I don't miss it. |

Why do you think you get away with this stuff? ETA: Seriously, I'm not saying you SHOULD be banned; I'm just interested in how you keep doing it with impunity when others have fallen. What do you think? What's the TC magic? |

I would characterize it as the kind of insulting provocation that seemed to get Rudy banned. Do you suppose there's an entertainment to insult ratio that John considers, and Rudy just feel short on the entertainment? |

ETA: Is there a thread I should look for? |

Oh geez.
My opinion on the matter is that I don't mind the recruitment story threads so much (I read some, skip others, and particularly like the train wrecks) but I do get annoyed with the "can't wait to hear more!" and "where's the OP? I want more!" I think we should comment when the story is OVER OR if someone is full of shit. Comments like that just feed into the narcissistic "Is anyone reading????" crap. ETA: I don't mind the word "fuck" or telling people to "fuck off." I'm a big girl. I've heard it before. |

About the threads, I can understand wanting some indication that people are reading so you know that you aren't posting it for nothing and nobody, but I get annoyed by big delays. I can't figure out why you'd start a big autobiographical thread and then fail to update it in 48 hour installments tops. |

As the site got bigger, there were more interesting conversations and threads, but it also gave way to more drama and more of the "let's all just get along and hold hands" stuff that you're talking about. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't seem like all that new of an issue. |

But I have always questioned completely going off on people in the recruitment sections where I feel like there's a legitimate reason to consciously think about making Greek life look bad. It's the one area about which people, I think, have an acceptable reason to be completely clueless. I know I've flipped out on people too and that some people get under your skin and are doing it deliberately. But I'm not sure that asking for politeness in some areas is a bad thing. |
Here's the thing, if you're going to write one, JUST WRITE ONE.
If you ask "Do you guys wanna hear it?" I'm going to say NO. Why? Because you asked and I'm not going to lie. And when I'm honest about it, I hate when people say "omg you scared her off!" Who cares? I think the issue here is that folks who are newer to GC don't realize that retro threads have been going on FOREVER and they're super lame now because the people who post them aren't even regulars. BTW: Tippie, please tell me I'm not in TEH kitchen. |

I've never really given two craps who writes a recruitment thread or not. I'm over them at this point because there's so many fakers. Some were fun to read, but then we were flooded with bad writers, perps, and just r-tards. I'm so over it mainly because it seems like a not so thinly veiled show of "my org is better than yours because we got more NMs via GC". Long live Chuck Norris' recruitment thread though...that was GC comedic genius. |

"Wanna hear my rush story?" > The sounds of tiny violins against your bitching and moaning. you definitely are that bitch. And I want you to come at me with something better than GC Kitchen. Its up there with "I know you are but what am I." |
