Actually, that's EXACTLY what she did, I'm just not providing the link.

Yes, thank you. I was already informed of this. And I already rescinded my prior statement.

Just playing the Devil's Advocate here, but that petition says it's sponsored by "the sisters of" her org, not herself personally. Maybe she didn't start it?

Zillini 06-07-2009 09:35 AM

Seriously? A public internet petition? "Let's embarrass the local and I/natl GLO by airing all the dirty laundry." Yeah, that ought to win over her National Council.

bostongreek 06-07-2009 09:39 AM

for her sake, i really hope she didn't start that and can prove it

Exactly.

I think that even if her sisters did start it, she'd have to be aware and supportive of it. It'd be pretty screwed up (and unbelievable) if her sisters started this completely without her approval and put her real name, photo, and personal business on the internet.

AOII Angel 06-07-2009 10:30 AM

She says she was never in trouble with AXiD, but on the petition, she was on academic probation the same semester this happened...she already used up her second chance.

agzg 06-07-2009 10:46 AM

Oh goodness - so people that aren't members of AXiD can sign this petition and help decide if she gets back into her org?

NO WAY. If a sister who was asked to leave did this instead of appealing to the proper authority then got back into my chapter I would be PISSED AS HELL. Non-members have NO BEARING on disciplinary actions within my organization.

I kind of disagree. I could see myself doing this for a sister I was close with when I was a freshman (and stupid!) and thinking that I was doing a good thing.

LadyLonghorn 06-07-2009 10:51 AM

Ridiculous. I feel so sorry for her, but not in the way she would expect.

I'm not saying it didn't happen (although, for the record, I highly doubt her sisters did that without her having any clue). I'm saying it'd be pretty screwed up if that's the way the petition came to be. And I'm standing by that. It's pretty screwed up all around.

indygphib 06-07-2009 12:12 PM

Online petition? Really? This takes pathetic to a whole new level...

KSUViolet06 06-07-2009 01:19 PM

Geez, you go out of town for a night and look what you miss.

This takes lack of discretion to a whole new level.

ComradesTrue 06-07-2009 03:11 PM

Okay, this thread and this girl go in the GC Hall of Fame for Stupidity. And that is sayin' something.

Holy Crap!

DrPhil 06-07-2009 04:37 PM

This is embarassing.

I think it's safe to say that the OP knew about this petition. The petition has a quote from her.

DrPhil 06-07-2009 04:42 PM

Okay...I am reading the comments under the names.

What is particularly striking are the comments regarding how routine it is to get in trouble with the GMU police. These silly comments were presumably made by her chapter sisters with names included. Crazy young co-eds.

33girl 06-07-2009 05:24 PM

I am LMAO about how when you scooch the petition down to read the end, all you can see in the picture is her knees.

lovespink88 06-07-2009 05:41 PM

OH GOD. :(

ETA: I noticed this in the comment section: "There would be no one in Greek life if everyone got suspended after getting in trouble with mason "police"."

Wow. What a smart thing to say...

texas*princess 06-07-2009 05:49 PM

Seriously? You made a mistake. Be a grown up about it and deal with the consequences.

MaggieXi 06-08-2009 10:56 AM

As an Alpha Xi Delta alum, I'm taken aback by the internet petition.

Basically, private and internal chapter and national business has been aired on the internet, painting the sorority in a negative light - to the op, how can this help your situation?

(Based up the OP's posting ONLY) I am wondering if this was handled correctly. I am not an advisor and am not up on my policies and procedures as it relates to this type of infraction, but my chapter did have something similar happen 10 years ago and it was handled internally very differently.

DrPhil 06-08-2009 11:07 AM

Personally, I don't think this reflects on Alpha Xi Delta. The "joke" is definitely on the OP and the other freshmen women who thought this was a good idea.

If anything, it reminds our orgs that even with policies and procedures individual members will do silly things, especially young members who know little about life let alone about a GLO. Can't win 'em all....

ETA: I'm just talking about the petition, not the actual policies and procedures.

Seriously. If you're genuinely trying to get this girl reinstated and saying that she's a fine outstanding sister, find a different picture instead of one where it looks like she forgot to put on any pants.

MysticCat 06-08-2009 11:27 AM

Words fail me.

honeychile 06-08-2009 12:17 PM

*shakes head in dismay*

SydneyK 06-08-2009 01:14 PM

Based on this passage (taken from the Alpha Xi Delta webpage specifically addressing its alcohol policy): "Failure to abide by law, regulation, policy, or Fraternity standards may be cause for membership release, suspension of membership, or discipline of the chapter in accordance with such Alpha Xi Delta policies." It sounds like suspension is not the same thing as termination. Regardless of whether the disciplinary action is permanent, however, it seems AXiD is pretty clear in its expectations. I can't believe the OP (or the sisters who made the petition for her, if that's what happened) thinks this petition will actually help her cause.

I wonder if we'll ever hear any updates from the OP.

She's too busy shopping for pants and a sense of decency.

Now if only there was a place to buy a sense of decency...

I'm pretty sure at Sam's you can buy decency wholesale. You have to be a member, though.

txstategirl 01-17-2010 02:11 AM

I just looked at the chapter's website and she isn't listed as a member.
