Alpha Phi Omega

Alpha Phi Omega doesn't quite fall into this category, but there was another name for the fraternity considered and rejected: Beta Sigma Alpha. Given that we were founded on the ideals of scouting. Beta Sigma Alpha was considered to be too obvious.

Phi Sigma Sigma was originally Phi Sigma Omega, but I believe it was changed because of a fraternity with the same name.

The American secret society, Z.B.T. was structured from this youth society until the name and organizational structure was changed to a Greek-Letter Fraternity.

Absolutely fascinating!
