Ya know, you guys can chat with each other about the asteroid or whatever you want, because I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Maybe if we drill deep enough into it (drill, baby, drill!), we can break up the asteroid into small enough pieces that miss us by juuuuust enough. And it'll create jobs! And win back all the goodwill we've lost in the past decade!

Well, I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I thought it was pretty bad. The supporting characters are pretty funny, like the Russian cosmonaut. Maybe it's the Aerosmith song that ruins it for me, though...I really hate that song.

Wait, seriously though, who says it's coming back? I'm a little anxious about that!

The beginning with the asteroid is funny. Then his scream at the end. LOL. I like that song.

This may be the purest and, out of context, the funniest flounce post I've ever read.

I feel like 9/10 times I go into a thread, there is Cheerfulgreek "drama."

PiKA2001 03-03-2009 08:35 PM

In all seriousness, is anyone else disturbed that with all of the telescopes and amateur "asteroid hunters" around the world this one was discovered only THREE days before passing us? Not to mention NO mention on the interwebs about this thing until after it had safely passed, which leads me to believe that if we were in a real life Armageddon, we would all be in the dark.

That song is horrible, I like Aerosmith a lot too.

Senusret I 03-03-2009 08:50 PM

Is Armageddon the one where Morgan Freeman is the President?

Anyway, regarding cheerfulgreek, if it isn't the same 3 or 4 greekchat morons catering to her, she will claim that we're ganging up on her when she says something stupid.

Otherwise, I think we do pretty well having conversations around here.

nittanyalum 03-03-2009 08:55 PM

People need to stop snacking on the hater tots, LOVE this movie and song! Own the VHS, DVD and CD. What?

To quote the great Dan Truman, "Well, our object collison budget's about a million dollars a year. That allows us to track about 3% of the sky, and begging your pardon sir, but it's a big-ass sky."

Senusret I 03-03-2009 09:30 PM

Most likely STUDYING! lol.... the only movie I saw while in college was The Matrix.

texas*princess 03-03-2009 09:32 PM

I don't want to pay taxes ever either. I don't know that my skill set is a good match for diverting or destroying asteroids though :(

Thetagirl218 03-03-2009 09:47 PM

This thread gave a me a huge laugh.....I agree with Dr. Phil for once...someone write it down! :)

Thanks for the YouTube Clip... I seriously love that movie!

The clip did remind me how butt ugly Steven Tyler is! I have no clue where Liv got her looks from!

After I watched the clip this one popped up....the old music video style made me laugh...

One note about that Netflix write up. I feel it's totally misleading to note that Armageddon was nominated for an Oscar!

I think that's the one where the U.S. decides to selectively save certain people from death when the comet strikes. Only young people are allowed to hide underground. I think that's another Bruce Willis one!

ETA: spoke too soon, no Bruce in this one.

It's really bad.

VandalSquirrel 03-03-2009 10:17 PM

His Seagram's commercial (weren't they black and white?) playing the harmonica was always amusing.

I've heard from my Sun Valley/Southern Idaho friends he's a real pain in the ass when he's in the area residing at his property.

Ah! I remember that movie.

These movie references remind me of one of my fav Twilight Zone episodes in the 80s. It's the one where Earthlings thought that the Earth is under attack by some aliens. The POTUS or whatever decides that we should go ahead and launch the missiles at the alien targets. Then the aliens start to kick our asses. At the end, the alien language was translated and the aliens were actually saying they wanted to be our friends. We made them kick our asses because we attacked first. FML.

You guys, Armageddon effing slays me. I don't cry about much of anything, but I straight start sobbing at that part where Bruce Willis shoves Ben Affleck back into the shuttle and stays behind to detonate the bomb.

And Liv Tyler touches the screen while she sobs and finally calls Bruce Willis 'daddy'? So many tears!

I don't know about you, but my most vivid Liv Tyler memory is from the Aerosmith music video with Alicia Silverstone, "Crazy." I'm sure the guys out there agree with me.

Here's the link for those who have forgotten the video (obviously not to be viewed at work): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnXiVXxan-Q .

nittanyalum 03-03-2009 11:13 PM

Oh, I remember! Those were Alicia's best years, the Aerosmith video years. And the movie "Clueless". But mainly, the videos. Remember this one? I think it was the first one and it set everyone abuzz: Crying http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwhugXT25WU
