I was just thinking about this the other day. I'm only 24, but I remember, I dunno, I feel like my parents were not as concerned about someone kidnapping us from the yard as parents are today.

Example: I was babysitting my 5 year old god-daughter, the other day and it was surprisingly pretty nice out for this time of year (like 50ish and not snowing). She was complaining about being bored, so I suggeted, "Why don't you go ride your bike?"

She seriously looked at me as if I had suggested that she go cartwheeling down the middle of the freeway or something equally crazy and dangerous.

I remember my parents would let us walk to the store (like 3 blocks away and past a major street) at night with no problems (as long as there were like 3 of us). Weird. I guess times have changed.

I DO.

There was Alice, The Mad Hatter, and The Queen of Hearts and they were always singing!

This came on I think before or following Dumbo's Big Top Circus.

Does anyone remember Under the Umbrella Tree on Disney Channel? You know, there was a lady, and she lived in a house with the Iguana who lived on the bookshelf, the Bluejay whose house was out on the balcony, and the Gopher, whose burrow was behind the couch? Anybody
?

They were? They have Trix at the hospital where I work (you know, those single serving bowls) and they are just little colored balls. I thought it was a mistake or something special they do for the single serves, I didn't know that's how they orginally looked!

Anybody remember back when remote-control cars were new and there was a cord between the car and the remote so you had to follow the car around?

NO. They're so gross, but when I was little, they were soooo good. It was a MUST go buy some when they came out with a new marshmallow. I remember I begged so hard when they came out with the hot air balloons!

ASTalumna06 02-18-2009 12:44 AM

When we were younger, my brother was obsessed with Cookie Crisp. I never understood.

This thread totally makes me smile :)

AKA_Monet 02-18-2009 01:42 AM

Hmmmm Back in the Day...

As a child: I had the Barbie Townhouse with the Elevator, the corvette and a full barage of Barbies where I cut their hair. I also had the black version of the "Sunshine Family"... And I took my brother's large GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip...

I was able to watch "Battle of the Planets" and "Starblazers" two Animes that got me loving Manga...

As a teen: I still watched all kinds of Cartoons. Mainly Anime. I was into art, science, dance, and pretty much partying... I could do that well... In fact had 2 raves where the police with a helicopter shut it down.

I was into music, with the reel to reel. Did not get into too much TV editing. I learned on the TRS (trash) 80... And the internet communications did not happen until my Freshman year in college on a Commodore 64. Could have learned programming at a very early age, but that machine language and the hexadecimal processing pissed me off... I know some things in Fortran...

Hey, if I knew back then, what I know now, I would be a billionaire...

Interesting how life has its twists and turns...

And yes, I vaguely remember Under The Umbrella Tree...

It's so sad. I started to sing this song before a chapter meeting last semester, and everyone turned to me and asked "What was that?" No one had heard the song, and no one had a clue as to what Lamb Chop's was.

I'm getting old :p

How could people not know lamb chop? I'm in undergrad, and I know who Lamb Chop is. During recruitment my sisters and I were singing "the song that never ends" when we got punchy moving furniture at 2am....and everyone knew what it was an joined in

AST, I think you, GammaPhi88 and I are all about the same age... maybe we're the last ones with decent memories? My younger brother and sister watched too, but they may not remember Lamb Chop as well.

How could anyone not know who lamb chop is? My 14 year old cousin knows lambchop (well that is because she used to looove The Nanny, and Lamb chop was a "guest star" once).

I remember on our 4th grade trip to Midland, we sang "the song that never ends" pretty much the whole way there! lol.

What was the name of the jukebox video channel?

The one where you had to call in to get your vidoe played at like... what? $2.99 a song?

I wonder how many parents' phone bills were in the hundreds for that.

KSUViolet06 02-19-2009 01:39 PM

*Double Dare. I can't be the only person in the world who ever wondered what that green Nickelodeon slime tasted like.

*I had a Cabbage Patch obsession growing up. I think I had like 7 or 8 of them. Remember the "Crimp & Curl" one? Her hair was like, specially treated yarn so when your curled it, it stayed. Then they started making them with actual hair, and I was like WTF?

*When Disney movies were NOT ALL Pixar ones. Don't get me wrong, I love Finding Nemo & Wall-E, but I miss when movies like Aladdin came out and it was a HUGE deal to go see it.

nikki1920 02-19-2009 02:35 PM

The Box, duh! lol

I sooo wanted to be on Double Dare!! I have 5 Cabbage Patch Dolls.

I had the recepie for it: water, flour, green food coloring, I think.

KSUVi: I'm talking before Aladdin, which used computer animation (the Cave of Wonders). I'm talking Oliver and Company (HOW did it get to be the 20th anniversary of its release?) with Billy Joel doing the soundtrack!! Why should I wor-ray, tell meh, why should I caayyyyyyarrree? I may not have a dime, but I've got street savoir faire!! (sp, my french no es bueno, lol!)
