[QUOTE=Sister Havana;1753359]The only reason I didn't vote for her was because she picked the absolute worst running mate there is. I did not want Joe Birkett anywhere near the statehouse. Had she picked anyone else she would have gotten my vote. (I did vote for her for treasurer twice)

Co-sign. Birkett's just nasty.

Ummm it feels like I'm still a proud product of Illinois....our corrupt politicians do not make the Land of Lincoln what it is...its the people and those who serve us who actually try to put the constituency first. Anyone in Illinois will tell you that Blagojevich (sp?) has been one of the least liked, uncompromising, and ineffective Illinois politicians for years...The only question most of us had was not IF but WHEN the indictment would come down.

IMHO...good riddance to him. The timing could not be better. This way the "Obama" Senate seat will not be tainted.

I think private transportation of any reasonable sort is an accepted perk of political office. The selling of a political office, while probably more common than expected, is not.

Besides, what other type of transportation does one take from Alaska, a kayak? I can remember seeing more than one picture of a private jet used by a former senator from Illinois.

Well, they do have commercial flights, too. Oh, and then there's that thing called a car...

Ha I was just about to post that! lol.

Do we even have any GCers from North Dakota?

srmom 12-11-2008 04:26 PM

What's y'all's take on the probability/chance that "candidate #5" is THE Reverend Jesse Jackson Jr.'s son?

Yikes, it's like a movie script - I bet Oliver Stone will be directing ;)

I cannot stand Rod Blagojevich. I'm from Illinois and have met him on a few different occasions, and something about him has always rubbed me the wrong way. Not to mention he's a total creeper.
That's how I feel about Rick Perry. I met him years ago and he totally creeped me out with the "invasion of private space" issue. EWWW. He was RR Commissioner at the time, I can't believe he is our governor!!

Jackson acknowledged yesterday that he is Candidate #5, so I'll go with 100% probability. :D

He also said he made no offers to the Gov.

Yes I read the thread, and the criminal complaint? The response still stands. What is your point?

Just FYI -- by definition, a rhetorical question is one to which no response is expected. ;)

Driving, from Alaska to DC? Seriously? Flying would actually be cheaper. How about the politicos from Hawaii? Should they be driving, too? Or maybe a boat to mainland, and then driving?

I'm going to stand by my statement that most people involved in politics would consider private transportation part of the perks of the job.

One day he toured our facilities at work, and while we were all in there working at the computer, he came up behind my best friend and proceeded to give her a shoulder massage (we took pictures inconspiculously and hung them at her desk the next day). He then invited us all over to his mansion for a soiree that night. Just a tad creepy...

Has the FBI denied that Obama or any of his people were on the wiretaps?

AKA_Monet 01-08-2009 04:32 AM

Dunno if this is true 'cuz it comes from the Daily Kos, but it is BLEEPIN' HILARIOUS if it's true...

Blagojevich considered appointing Oprah for Senate and decides to skip out on trial

This clown.....

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Gov. Rod Blagojevich tells ABC that he considered appointing Oprah Winfrey to the empty U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090126/...or_impeachment

Continuing his media blitz on the day that his impeachment trial was scheduled to begin in the Illinois Senate, Gov. Rod Blagojevich appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" this morning where he stuck to his story that he did nothing illegal and that he was a victim of an unfair process that could lead to his ouster in a matter of weeks.

Asked directly by interviewer Diane Sawyer if he did anything wrong, Blagojevich said: "Absolutely not and I'll have a chance in a criminal case to show evidence and bring witnesses. And this impeachment trial actually gives me an opportunity, if it was fair, if it allowed me to actually bring witnesses, to prove that the allegations are not true."

http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2...g-america.html

Funny how he 'has a chance' to prove he did nothing wrong but so nonchalantly decides to skip the trail and go talk on the news because he believes he won't get a fair trial...well you can't get a fair anything when you don't show up.

...Surprised that lightning didn't strike him down for this gem:

As Dec. 9 unfolded, Blagojevich told NBC, "I thought about Mandela, Dr. King and Gandhi and tried to put some perspective to all this and that is what I am doing now."

http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2009...rss-topstories

I don't recall any of them trying to capitalize on their standing by abusing power.

Apparently he's not listening to legal advice either - I think he's gone through at least a couple of attorneys, and his most recent attorney is dropping him as a client as well.

The megalomaniac affliction seeped into his toupee and affected his mind.

Lady_Zeta1920 01-26-2009 01:26 PM

This clown probably thought that he wouldn't be impeached because he felt he did nothing wrong. President Obama was correct in his judgment when he didn't comment on the scandal. He knows that the media will take whatever he wanted to say and make it worse.

Lady_Zeta1920 01-26-2009 01:27 PM

Doesn't his face look like a botched plastic surgery?

I get daily text messages about what a douche my new governor is. At least it keeps my family interested in what's going on here!

KappaKittyCat 01-26-2009 07:41 PM

Blago is going to be on Larry King Live tonight... "taking your calls!"

Also, that transcript is hi-EFFING-larious! As my grandmother would say, "The mouth on him!"

It's not that he's corrupt per se, it's just that he's so funny while he's doing it.

The transcript between Rahm Emanuel and Blago is to die for. Basically, it's just the F-word. Emanuel ends the conversation with, "have a nice life, fatso!"
Comic gold.

LadyDread2010 01-28-2009 12:35 PM

There is something that gets me. When the charges of abuse of power were released, didn't it occur to him that the phones were tapped?

well let's remember, HE IN HIS OWN MIND doesn't think he did anything wrong.

LadyDread2010 01-28-2009 01:51 PM

That is true, but even as he claims he didn't do anything wrong,he should've been more careful on the phone.
