Looks like there won't be a constitutional convention for another 20 years. (A very contentious issue. Once every 20 years, the electorate votes on whether to have a constitutional convention. If a convention is held, it then proposes changes, and the electorate votes on each of the proposed changes. A lot of people were worried that gay marriage and abortion rights would go out the window if there were a convention.)

My House race is still too close to call. No Senate race here this year.

I voted no on ours.

christiangirl 11-04-2008 10:18 PM

Okay, someone help me with this: If the win is determined by electoral votes, why is it so important that the people vote? I used to know this one, but I'm drawing a blank.

Because the electoral votes are supposed to reflect how the people in that state voted.

It should be thrown out and just use a popular vote. Seriously. Doesn't matter though... the votes in my house were cancelled out lol.

48 states have adopted winner-take-all system. Maine and Nebraska use a tiered system where a single elector is chosen within each Congressional district.

Candidates can fail to get the most votes in the nationwide popular vote in a presidential election and still win that election.

If that were the case, Gore would have won in 2000 and we wouldn't have endured at least the first four years of W.

OBAMA JUST TOOK OHIO

according to ABC

Obama 195
Mc Cain 76

AGDee 11-04-2008 10:25 PM

Looks like we're getting medical marijuana. Two of my co-workers' husbands are unemployed (Chrysler and Pfizer) and a couple of us are single moms so we all decided we'd become licensed growers if it passes :) What a great second job, eh? LOL

Our other big controversial one, embryonic stem cell research with invitro embryos that are going to be thrown away, which I thought would fail big, is very close.

BetteDavisEyes 11-04-2008 10:30 PM

I'm antsy about this whole thing but one that really hits is California's Prop 8. I'm watching Presidential coverage and also my local news regarding the same-sex marriage act. NO on prop 8! :D

/end rant of a "socialist baby killer"

No joke. Someone called me that when they found out I was voting Obama.

One of my Facebook friends (an Obama voter) called me a "Fascist pig who doesn't care about people," and wrote me a message with a whole lot of curse words when she found out I was voting McCain. It was quite possibly the rudest email I've ever received.

Idiocy exists on both sides.

This just in from my sister-in-law (a HARDCORE OBAMA supporter, also an Alpha Gam!) via text message:

"This is such an orgasm of a night for me haha watching the coverage is like porn ha!"

It's as if sending you mean messages and "articles" from websites such as (example) www.nobamanoway.com or www.morelikejohnmcant.com are really going to change your mind at this stage in the game.

Exactly - or, the fact that I'm a Republican is some sort of personal flaw. It's annoying, and I already get a lot of crap being a Republican in New England. I don't need my "friends" sending me really nasty messages.

I just told her that she was entitled to her opinion, and that I would hope she would respect my opinion, even if she didn't agree with it.

Do you mind me asking how you voted on Prop2? I'm surprised it's so close...I hope it passes, but I also thought it would be a huge "no."

Well, I work for the health system with the most research dollars without being connected to a University (in our state) so it was a no-brainer, big fat Yes for me. My only concern with it is the last part about there being no more restrictive regulation on it ever. That part seems a little shady, but I decided it was more benefit than bad. I thought the commercials against it would really freak people and that it would lose big. It's so close.

ZTAngel 11-04-2008 10:49 PM

Obama just got New Mexico. I want to know Florida's results. My new home in Georgia went to McCain but I'm curious what happens in the state I grew up in.

AGDee 11-04-2008 10:52 PM

If it wasn't so darn cold, I'd probably enjoy living in Minnesota. Jesse Ventura one year, now it looks like Al Franken is going to win. They have fun with their politics.

I voted yes on 2. I lost my aunt to cancer. If there is a way to find a cure, as long as it's humane, I'm for it. Those embryos are just going to be thrown out. If they can be used for good, then they should be.

I'm not sleepin' 'til I see the president elect's speech.

They're already calling him "President Obama" on CNN. But that's CNN.

ETA: Yay for bickering on CNN.

SWTXBelle 11-04-2008 11:11 PM

My mother's big fear is that some crazy person is going to kill Obama, and we'll have President Biden.
