On another note, the last sentence in the article reminds me of the conversation that has been going on in this thread about Pittsburgh crime...

TMZ has this:
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.tmz.com/m...de_by_side.jpg Political Karma Will Get You in the End With the news that Ashley Todd lied about that whole "I was mugged and beaten because I support McCain" story, our good friends at Gawker reminded us of the tale of Justin Zatkoff. Back in 2006, Zatkoff invented a story that he was beaten up because of his political views after a Michigan College Republicans meeting. Turns out Zatkoff made the whole thing up and was just beaten up by his friends. Ooops! |
It seems like one heck of a conspiracy theory that this woman would be the public face of some elaborate set-up by the McCain campaign, or the "October Surprise."
And please, let's not try to say that this woman represents all Republicans, or even all McCain voters. Ugh, what a mess... |
Oh, I absolutely agree. It's clear that this is just a random nutcase. If the McCain campaign had concocted this story, they would have chosen a different victim: someone 5 feet tall and 90 pounds, cute, blonde, virginal, maybe a minister's daughter. Or maybe Bristol Palin. And not only would she have been mugged, assaulted, and branded, she would have been raped. Just to put that perfect cherry on top of the white rage-inciting "big black man attacks poor helpless innocent adorable white girl" sundae. ;)
I'm kidding, Republicans. But really, this is way too sloppily executed to be some grand political conspiracy. She was acting of her own accord. I hope someday we get an explanation as to why. (GeekyPenguin -- does this remind you of the Audrey Seiler case at all? Because that's the first thing I thought of.) |

And I think it would have been Willow Palin. ;) |
OK, the majority of Pgh East Enders (which I am one, well sort of still) called bullshit on this to begin with. The intersection where this happened is a busy one, in an increasingly busy as far as nightlife goes area, and NWIH would this have happened without anyone seeing it.
Bloomfield is NOT a high crime area - it isn't the soccer mom suburbs, but it's more overrun with hipsters in need of baths than it is muggers in need of a fix. Oh, and this girl might be my little's ex-husband's step-niece because the name is the same. My lil hasn't seen her for years and years (since Ashley was a little girl) so she really couldn't tell from the picture. |

C'mon, you can do better than this. It really has gotten to the point that when I hear someone calling Obama a Socialist/Communist, I pretty much discount anything else they have to say -- it's a credibility-blower, a corrollary to Godwin's Law. (Maybe we can call it Bachman's Law? :D) But you can do better. |

But his tax policies are redistributive to the point where socialism becomes a better comparison than any tax cuts we've had in the past. |
