These latest comments are ringing true, and making me think of my house trying to promote our alcohol-free policy when I was a senior 5 years ago. I used to hear some of my brothers tell rushees crap like, "It's nice to be able to get up and go down the hall to the bathroom without having to step over a pile of beer cans." Like that ever happened in the first place!
Or another selling point we used to use: "We don't have to worry about mopping up huge puddles of beer in our party room the morning after a party." I think if you ask fraternity members, at least 95% will tell you that the 5 minutes you spend mopping up a puddle of beer is well worth it if you had a cool party the night before.
The biggest messes that we had to worry about when I lived in my house were due to people not bothering to pick up their mail or leaving their empty pizza boxes in the hallway, or not taking newspapers out to be recycled. Now there's no excuse for being a slob, of course, but banning alcohol from your house is not going to make those piles of newspapers go away.
