She's not at MSU but all the sororities my daughter had rec letters for did not invite her back. She's a sophomore so I realize she is at an immediate disadvantage but I was surprised by that - I know she got some very good letters from some very influential sisters. The GLO's always state that if they need a rec letter and don't have one for you that it is their responsibility to get one so I haven't worried about it...until I read this thread. LOL

it sounds like she did get invited back to some sororities, so i hope that she is happy and is continuing to participate. because it is a mutual selection process, rush can be unpredictable. while it is better to "hedge your bet" by securing as many recs.(meaning for each sorority on campus, not 20 to the same chapter) as possible, if a sorority wants a pnm badly enough, they will find a way to get a rec. for her. hopefully this is your daughters case.
good luck to her! |
I have some relatives who went to State, and I think it's pretty competitive in its own way. Some people have their hearts set on certain chapters, and those chapters can be elusive.
But I think that the groups are pretty strong, and a good experience is available in all of them. So, a girl who will keep an open mind has a good shot at having a solid Greek experience. I also think, unless things have changed a lot, there is a lot of social interaction among groups, so it's not like some of the campuses where if you don't pledge a "top" group, you won't ever have a decent social. And being Greek at all is a big deal in terms of having more to do in Starkville so the benefits of seeing the whole recruitment process through are solid. |

"I'm not an expert, but I'd suggest you take the clothing recommendations up a half-crotch to a full crotch. If it suggests shorts, go for a skirt (denim or khaki) that hits between fingertip length and just above the knee. Each day, go a bit more formal." I had to go back and re-read this twice before I actually read "notch" and not "crotch". :o Frankly, it kind of made sense in that bizarre "did she really just say that" way. Half-crotch=shorts. Full crotch=skirt (denim or khaki). |
