So this is like high school. But then, the mod teaches high school so maybe this is her outlet to imitate her students. Whatever, I'm naive and expect mods to act like adults.

BTW...what does it take to have a mod replaced?

I still stand behind what I said in the previous thread.

Actually wasn't the mod, but another mod friend who said it... Still, it was said. And, still I know about it. It takes an act of an absent "god" named John to remove the mod.

I'll admit that I'm acronym challenged so I had to look up what IBTM meant.

I was very surprised to learn that it meant "In Before the Move" because really..."I Blame the Moderator" seems more appropriate.

DeltAlum 08-10-2008 06:50 PM

You may blame me.

Please don't pretend you don't know why.

As long as personal attacks and indecent language are used, I will close or move other threads as well.

I'd suggest you take your complaints to John or a SuperMod -- not drag them out on a public forum.

ETA, I originally closed this thread, but I'm going to reopen it so anyone who wants may add whatever childish or well thought out comments you care to.

Either way.

33girl 08-10-2008 07:03 PM

I reiterate:

SUPERMODS ARE NOT THERE TO MAKE CONTENT DECISIONS.

Please don't "go to" them and put them in an uncomfortable position and ask them to perform a function they didn't sign on for. Thank you.

How is this (by this I mean the "childish" comment) keeping in line with your own standards you just set - no "personal attacks"? Practice what you preach.

What you said about taking things to a Supermod absolutely undermines and goes against everything other mods have said - are you privy to knowledge that they're not? Are Supermods now for something other than taking care of spammers and other problems? If so, it seems the rest of the mods didn't get that note. And telling people to contact John is a joke and a half, as you well know, as he doesn't respond to anyone.

Sounds like GC needs a FAQ on the job descrptions of Mods and SuperMods.

Yes.

DeltAlum, I have a sincere question. Why was the action taken in this case a complete removal of the thread, rather than a removal of the posts that were pointed personal attacks with offensive (to some) language? I would have thought the posts that were against the TOS could have been removed rather than the entire thread. I'm not questioning to be argumentative, I'm questioning to understand, and as such would appreciate a reply when possible.

All moderators are charged with making content decisions in enforcing the Terms of Service. The SuperModerators are as well.

Better yet, maybe there should be tougher TOS to protect the moderators:

Moderators and administrators may edit, move, and delete posts to make them more accessible or to bring them into compliance with our TOS. If an edit changes the context or meaning of the post in any significant way, moderators will usually include a note that the post has been edited in the post itself. All moderation, however, is performed on a "best efforts" basis - each poster is fully responsible for his/her own posts, and each visitor is responsible for what he/she reads. Offensive posts should be reported to the moderators, and every effort will be made to remove them as soon as possible. Out of respect for both moderators and policies, discussion of moderator actions and forum policies is welcomed via private message or e-mail; these issues are off-topic for the forums.
