I've used the chat, usually when I was playing Scrabulous "live" with someone. The board wouldn't always refresh so we would chat and then say "your turn". I've found it to be a little buggy, telling me someone logged off and back on, when they hadn't done anything, but it's alright. I talk to AGDLynn on there too sometimes.

I didn't know they had this whole chat thing until one day I was sitting there on Facebook and this message popped up in my face. I didn't even know what it was. And I hate it, btw. If I want to message people, I'll do it on AIM.

And people keep saying "but if they don't have my screen name, they can message me on Facebook instead". Um... if they found you on Facebook, can't they write on your wall asking "what's your screen name so I can talk to you on AIM instead of bothering the F*** out of you every time you're on Facebook"?

I use the IM/Chat thing on Facebook occasionally. I tried the "new" layout for like two seconds and switched it back.

I removed AIM/Yahoo IM from my computer over a year ago and I can't remember when it was last that I've actually logged on. I know it's connected to my mobile, but I can't remember when it was last that I used it.

When Facebook came out with their chat feature, I immediately turned it off and have kept it off.

I'm going to sound like a snob here, but those chat programs (AIM, Yahoo IM included) are sooooo beneath me.

We use an Office Communicator software at work (run through Outlook), that's essentially the same as AIM, except it uses your real name and can pop-up your email and direct dial.

I do know, though, that a bunch of larger companies (law firms, etc.) have started using AIM as an alternative to calling or emailing each other. The instant messaging system we have works great; I deal with people in a bunch of offices in the area, and outside of the state, and it's easier than picking up the phone. Plus, you can see if someone is offline, and thus, most likely, out of the office. People have a funny habit of forgetting to put up their "Out of Office" message.

Well to me, it's more of a convenience than anything else. If I see someone online whose screename I don't have, it's easier to instant message them over Facebook than ask for their screename, add them to my buddy list, etc.

But maybe I'm just lazy. :)

I have hundreds of contacts on Facebook and much fewer on AIM. That's why I prefer AIM - it's only the people I'd want to instant message, rather than a random bored classmate.

I used the facebook IM when I was at work, because I could talk to my friends while getting yelled at. I don't use it much at home because I generally access facebook through my phone (I know that sounds sad, but I have dial up and facebook takes forever to load).

I use the chat once in awhile but not often
