I remember when I first started pledging AXiD, telling my mom about several coincidences; I was convinced that it was fate!
1. Alpha Xi Delta's open motto is "The pen is mightier than the sword". I have always been a writer by hobby, and my first college minor was Creative Writing (my major was Theatre). When I transfered as a junior, I changed my major to English with a concentration in Journalism. After graduation, I spent several years writing as a job. To this day, I continue to write, and am now working on a few projects that might be produced. 2. AXiD's philanthropy at the time was Respiratory Health. I happen to have Cystic Fibrosis and Asthma, two diseases affecting the lungs. 3. Pink roses. I can't tell you how much pink I have in my world, at 5, 18, and now. 4. At initiation... well let's just say that some things are more than coincidence! |
I pledged OPhiA while I was the president of another org on campus, AIESEC, and one of the members of AIESEC was the president of OPhiA. Later, having been president of AIESEC very unexpectedly helped out my Delta line. Random.
My grandmother has collected Raggedy Ann dolls for a long time, and since I pledged OPhiA, it's been fun because now I'm always on the look out for dolls for her, for me, and for sisters, chapters, and events. I am all about Raggedy Ann, and it's nice to be able to share that with my grandmother :) |
I can't help but feel it's all a little more than coincidence...but here we go:
1. When I was in HS, I was very involved in the NJROTC program at my school...I even wore and anchor necklace. 2. I had no interest in going Greek in college...until I learned that DG was colonizing my junior year. My mom was a DG. 3. NCSU gave DG a bid to colonize 2 months after my mom was diagnosed with cancer. 4. My mom pinned me at initiation 4 months before her death. I truly think she knew I would be okay because I had the support of such amazing sisters. |
My entire childhood I always had this huge panda bear. Here is a pic of me with my panda! And you know I didn't even know I was a legacy to AOII when I went through rush because I never asked my grandmother! Since she never mentioned Greek Life I never asked! So I guess it was fate that I picked AOII because they sure didn't know I was a legacy! I know I was shocked when she sent me her mother's AOII badge from 1924!

When I was going through Recruitment I stayed with my aunt and uncle (instead of living in the dorms like most) and had to ride the bus to and from their house each day. On the way home sometime in the middle of the week, I was talking to another PNM about Recruitment and an older lady on the bus overheard us. She asked us if we were going through Recruitment at UW, to which we replied yes, and she said "oh, I'm an Alpha Xi Delta from UW". She said some other stuff too, but I can't remember what now. I remember thinking "Okay...that's nice...why are you telling us", but lo and behold, I ended up at AXiD!
I never found out who that lady was - I should ask around and see if I can figure it out. |

The first week of school, I was with a few of my guy friends who ended meeting up with a girl a year older that went to their high school who I did not know and she took us to a party.
During rush, I saw the girl and recognized her and at bid night she came up to me and was like you're that girl that went out with me and those guys that first week of school. haha We have bonded ever since, and now shes my pledge mom and one of my best friends. My mom sent me a box for valentine's day and she stuffed this ladybug pillow in the box. She had no idea that our unofficial mascot is a ladybug! |
About the only coincidence I have is the two of the first people I met at my school ended up being brothers of mine. It was pretty cool to rush and relize they were Psi Us.
|
Well, the fall semester of seinor year there was some drama one night, about which i don't recall, and so mine and a good buddy's/brother's response to that was to get wasted...so anyway we ended up at taco bell, with me, his girlfriend that it took twenty minutes for us to convience us to drive us there, and she gets like one taco and a small drink. I forget what we got but the total was $18.56. Theta Chi was founded at Norwich in the year 1856. We were excited.

My whole life my mom and I have loved Dolphins and my room growing up had a dolphin theme.

Hmm, I dunno if this counts, but my dad LOVES irises (ok, I do, too) and he has about 300 different kinds. They're EVERYWHERE. He sends me cards with irises on them sometimes now and makes a joke about Kappa.

My big brother lived in the same room his freshman year as I did my freshman year, two years later.

There are quite a few random pictures of me with squirrels in the park as a child. I remember going to the arboretum and feeding them peanuts as well as the ducks bread. My grandmother also had a record she played for me that was a recording of "Squirrel Nutkin" when I would visit her.
Now there are pictures of my nephew with squirrels in the park, so if he ever marries an Alpha Gam those are so coming out at the wedding. |
