I got to be a big of a Celts fan during college and while I was living in Boston, as I happened to be able to get tickets to quite a few games. It's times like last night that I really miss living in Boston, and can't wait to go back there after law school. The city must have been insane last night. |

Some history was made last night also.
Celtics are 9 and 2 vs the Lakers in the Finals This was one of the biggest blowouts in finals history especially for a series ending win. This win surpassed the previous NBA record for the largest margin of victory in a championship-clinching game, previously set in Game Five of the 1965 NBA Finals, with the Celtics beating the the Lakers 129–96 This is the Celtics 17th Championship and...correct me if I am wrong someone...but also Doc Rivers just became the first Black NBA coach to win an NBA Finals (Byron Scott was the first to go but never won) and also first coach who was also a former player that faced a Phil Jackson team (Bulls). |

I was really young for both of those games (I'm 27), but I wish I had a clearer memory of when they were played. |

Your post is full of legends. :) I wonder how many legends will come from the new NBA. |

I think I can make a quick list based on it. |

It has to have been when Wilkins and other 80's NBA legends started retiring and so forth. The early to mid 1990s. Ya know, when slam dunking and 3-point contests started sucking. I haven't watched these contests in years whereas these contests used to be a religion in my household. Just like playoffs and championships were a religion. My fav teams in order were: The Lakers, Celtics, Hawks, and Detroit. |
that's an awful long list if you are talking mid 90s
Jordan Iverson Rodman Robinson Duncan Malone Payton Webber J. Howard Hill Olajuwan Mutumbo O Neil Bryant Nash Norwitzi Carter Divac Ewing Barkley Garnett Camby Allen L James Arenas Ming Marbury and that's all I can think of...I know I missed a lot. |
:) People who entered the NBA in the 80s are not the new NBA to me. If I was a decade or two older then, yeah, these people would be the "new NBA" to me. :)
I just chose an arbitrary time period when many of the 80s legends were retiring. But some of the 80s legends were still in the NBA in the early to mid1990s. They can be legends who just hadn't retired yet. I just see a clear change in the excitement of the NBA that happened in the mid1990s and 2000s. So the newbies of the mid1990s and 2000s are the new NBA and I wouldn't consider these people to be legends. Mutombo was good when he was drafted in 1991(?) and had a cool career. But beyond his notoriety I wouldn't call him a "legend." |

Like john Stockton, Larry Johnson, Jerry Stackhouse, and a few others. |
You know, had it not been for The Most Embarrassing Moment in Sport History (aka the Patriots losing to the Giants with 2 minutes left during the Superbowl), this would have been the trifecta for Boston sports fans.
Then again, win or lose, the true fans are ever faithful. But it sure does feel great to be on top. Boston is the greatest sports town - it's just electrifying when any of our guys in town. I sure do miss it up there!!! Thankfully, there are a lot of Boston fans in this area of CT. |
