Though I don't live down there, every time I visit my family in that area, I fear for my life....

I HATE driving down there!

In Tampa Bay, US 19 is one of the worst roads in the state due to the number of deaths! It is crazy to drive on!

In Jacksonville, JTB and Beach Blvd can be hell with all the construction going on for the next 100 years...

Hahaha, there's a group on Facebook that I joined that's called "I do not fear death, for I drive in Miami every day."

But yeah, it's crazy. I feel so comfortable and kind of powerful whenever I drive in places like Naples, Orlando, etc. I'm not used to people following traffic laws and driving politely. :p

ETA: But ironically, the most dangerous intersection in the US isn't actually in Miami-Dade, it's in Broward. The intersection of Flamingo Rd and Pembroke Rd in Pembroke Pines which is a huge suburb of South Florida.

not necessarily a highway, but Brookville Blvd in Rosedale has a stretch of curvy, one-lane road, dubbed "Snake Road" that goes over Jamaica Bay (near JFK). It smells awful and while the speed limit is low (i'd say its 25-30), ive seen folks speed through that road like a video game. plus, the Q113 goes through that road to get to Far Rockaway and if the weather is less that stellar, anyone could be on edge.

also, at the end of Snake Road, on the airport side, you are at the beginning of a long stretch of Rockaway Blvd, i believe it was a 2 mile stretch of 3 lanes. A stoplight was recently put in because some JFK-related business was built on the side of th road, but also because people would drag race and eventually cause accidents.

Yes! I've been traveling Brookville a lot recently because two of my best friends moved to East Atlantic Beach. That stretch of road is one of the worst I've ever driven. So uneven. It's like constant whiplash. There is not one smooth surface. And my car is low, so I feel everything. I always feel like I leave pieces of my car all over the road! I swear, one day I'm going to lose a wheel.

And pretty much any area of the Belt or the Interboro/Jackie Robinson Parkways are horrendous as well. Those roads were not built for speed.

yes, the Jackie is awful. its very curvy and only two lanes. everyone goes around me cause i refuse to speed on it.

let's not forget Queens Blvd, dubbed the Boulevard of Death.

slight hijack: where exactly is East Atlantic Beach?

Slightly off topic - people always complain about driving in Boston, and mention those roads as scary/dangerous. I've found them to be the opposite; there's a sort of method to the madness, and Boston drivers are aggressive, rather than dangerous.

I mention this because I've found that CT drivers, for the most part, are aggressive AND dangerous.

The West Virginia Turn-Pike. I hate driving on that dang road.

East Atlantic Beach is a hamlet on Long Beach Island:

I-4, running from Tampa to Orlando. There have been many claims of people seeing ghosts from all of the dead motorists.

Someone once told me that speed limits on Florida highways can get up to 85mph. Is that true?

As for roads out town, I don't find this one dangerous (unless someone is confused or drunk), but I find it kind of scary...the part of Lakeshore drive in Chicago where there's like two expressways running parallel to each other. What's up with that? When you make a left turn onto the farthest left road, it feels like you're going down the wrong way.

Dear God, who would ever go "hiking" on that Chinese "trail"?!!! Without a parachute, I mean.

In Florida (for most parts I've been) the speed limit is whatever you want it to be...Until you see the police. It usually works well for us. But usually the max is 70/75mph (on the biggest highways), I've never seen above that.

I'd have to say the WORST piece of road is the stretch of 826 (although all of 826 is bad) that runs through Hialeah-OMG! I'm sorry, I love my fellow Sfloridians, but it's obvious that most of those people did not learn to drive here. That road should be razed. I seriously, they don't know how to get on it, how to merge, how to drive, nor how to get off! WTF!

BTW- ever since I heard that Flamingo and Pines was the worst intersection I never got why because even with the hospital being right there and ambulances flying by at any given time you rarely see many accidents. When you do however, they are MAJOR. I used to work in the mall right there and drove that way every day and never had issues...

Yeah, it is pretty crazy. But all of 826, IMO, is bad.

And Flamingo and Pines was the worst because of the amount of car crashes that happened there per year. I don't know if that is still the case, but I remember seeing some nasty crashes there sometimes.

Speed limit is 70mph on I-75, I-4, and I-95 in FL. As for avoiding the cops, they tend to hang out in certain spots but can surprise you....

Sadly this is not a joke! Many people have died on that stretch of road due to bad weather conditions. They was a huge accident in March where many people died, and over 100 cars were crashed. This was due to dense fog and wildfires. They actually had to close the interstate for several days and re-pave the road!

On another note: Did anyone see the story about the plane that landed and took off on I-95 in Ormand Beach (Just North of Daytona)? Crazy stuff!

PhiGam 06-19-2008 01:01 AM

I-75 from Tampa to the Georgia line is practically the Autobahn, I've done 100 the whole way without getting pulled over numerous times (never had a speeding ticket)
