Ditto on your Screen Name. I'm ready to find my Dexys Midnight Runners LP.

I did a little interesting research in the last 5 minutes. Quota last year was 52, down from 60 in 2006. In IrishPipes thread, it showed that most houses took quota plus. When I went to UCF's website for the fall grades, only 2 houses had at least 52. Did that many girls depledge?

Sorry! :) I don't want anyone to think that guaranteed bid means guaranteed happiness.

Of course... it's possible in some cases that a person would grow to love her last choice group after she gives it a try for a few weeks.

Anyway, the point may be moot since we don't have confirmation if UCF guarantees placement or not. Very few schools do.

hey breathesgelatin, is your signature now meant to get everybody fired up for Bloomsday?

ha, no. It's just because.

UCF definitely does not guarantee bids. However, as long as your grades are good, and you go in with an open mind, you stand a pretty decent chance.

Sophomore standing can affect you, but it is nowhere near as bad as at some schools. Back in my day, I think a sophomore who was otherwise a strong candidate would at least have a chance at every chapter. Again, having an open mind is imperative, and recs wouldn't kill you either. (They're not all that common at UCF in my experience, so they will help you stand out.)

Thanks everyone for answering my question! All your answers were really helpful. I'm currently in the process of trying to get my recs right now, so I'm glad I got on that. :)

Agreed--- bids are not guaranteed.

Sophomores are at a greater disadvantage than freshmen at some chapters, but not all chapters.

Not all chapters get a lot of recs, but many do and they are coming in increasing numbers each year. When I was in school, we got a lot at my chapter. I can't speak for the others.

It's cliche, but keep an open mind to every single chapter, just as you would want each chapter to give you a fair shake! Each chapter is between 80-150 members. If you can't find friends in a group that size, I think the problem does not lie with the sorority! ;) LOL.

The UCF Greek System is going to be a fantastic experience, no matter what chapter you call home. More than 10 years after joining, I still love ADPi, but I know I would have been proud to call any of the UCF sororities my home! I was in a wedding last weekend where the bride was a UCF Chi-O, and her attendants included ADPi's, a Tri-Delta, a KD and other Chi-O's :) It's a wonderful Greek community, and you're going to have a great time at recruitment!

I second ADPiUCF. I rushed as a sophomore after "depledging" (if you call it that..)as a freshman... You won't get immediately cut from every chapter, but some chapters will consider you differently then they would a freshman.

However, don't let that get you bummed out. Every chapter IS extremely wonderful at UCF; luckily for us there is a great sense of respect and friendship amongst UCF greeks.

I am also a sophomore at UCF who is planning on rushing in the fall. I don't really know any sorority alums, at least not in chapters at UCF, so I'm rec-less (not reckless though :)). Hopefully those two things won't affect my chances too much! UCF does have a great Greek system and I am really excited to be involved in it!

Just because your friends in sororities don't have chapters at UCF, that doesn't mean they won't be able to help you out. Ask your friends if they know anyone in the sororities represented at UCF.

Judging from what I've read here, it's not required, but recs definitely do help. Since you have some time before Fall Recruitment, maybe it might be a good idea to at least put in some effort in securing some.
