I, for one, would be proud to be part of any sorority at KU, even the "C" sororities. I'm not saying that because it's the PC thing to say. All 13 chapters are full of great girls.

PLEASE don't go out of your way to find out reputations. It's much wiser to base your decision on who you click with with.

I do not know how competitive KU and KState are, but maybe it will help if you can find out how many girls went through recruitment, pledge class size for formal recruitment, how many participate in informal recruitment, etc. You can contact the Greek Life office on those campuses for that information. Also, contact the alumnae panhellenic associations in your area or a major city in Kansas if you are out of state. They should be of some help.

Warning - just ask how competitive the campuses are (are recs needed, out of state advice, etc) NOT reputations of individual groups.

I also am rushing at KSU this fall...as a junior though. I went to a junior college my first two years and am transferring now. I have talked to several people, including someone in the office of greek life at K-State, and I have gotten mixed responses when it comes to "How slim are my chances of getting into a house since I'm a junior?" Some tell me that I shouldn't waste my time because they will pass on me, some say that I should do it because of my personality, that they will overlook my class. Since I've gotten all types of responses, I'm going to rush and hope that my personality, GPA (3.66), recs, and all that good stuff will shine through my age. Here's hoping! Any advice is welcomed haha.

No other advice is necessary. You already know what the two possible results are, and based on what you posted it seems that you're well-equipped with the things that may help you have a successful rush.

Yes, TLJ, please keep us posted! Your stats are good and it seems like the only thing working against you is your age. That will probably get you cut at some top houses, but other houses might be more receptive.

Honestly, I would be pretty pleased to have someone who has demonstrated academic success at the COLLEGE level. So many PNMS come through with a 4.0 from high school, accept their bids, and promptly fail their classes.

So are you saying she doesn't stand a chance at the "Top Tier" sororities?

Have sex with a lot of Sigma Nus... according to Kedzman they are top tier because they have a decent GPA.

That's kind of what I'm saying... If she's a junior, she's probably only going to be around for two years and thus will only be paying dues and house fees for two years. Compared to a freshman PNM with the same stats and the same like-ability, many chapters would take the freshman to help their bottom line.

Of course, I don't know for sure what could happen. I could be wrong. And I do think TLJ can have a successful recruitment, but her upperclassman status puts her at a disadvantage on a campus like KSU.

At KU (and I assume at KSU, because they are similar), a "top tier" house is only a little bit stronger than a second or even third tier house. It's generally the difference between a 3.4 gpa and a 3.2, first place in intramurals and second place.

And with PNMs, the most desirably houses often earn that honor in silly ways: the catchiest songs, the coolest symbols, the cutest outfits or the nicest house.

Eh, I'm not really concerned with getting into a "top" house, I'm more concerned about getting into a house that I fit well into, regardless of if it's "number 1" or not haha.

Hi guys, I'm thinking about going though recruitment at K-State this fall. I would like to get into a sorority, but its not a matter of life and death with me as it seems to be with other girls. I have heard that if you have decent grades and are presentable it is highly unlikely you won't get an offer from a house. Maybe you won't get your first, second, or third choice but you will at least get one offer. The reason I'm asking is because I'm not 100% sure I want to do the greek thing in college. I think that even after recruitment week if I feel its not for me then at least I will have met a lot of cool people. But, if it is something I want to pursue it would be nice to get a bid after spending $250.00 on fees plus new outfits. Basically, it's been an expensive summer with dorm fees, tuition, and books and I'm not sure if I want to spend the time and money with no gaurentee. I know this is not the best attitude to have, and I would appreciate it if you guys could tell me what you think.

1. College is a time to try and experience new things.
2. There are very few guarantees in life.
3. Sororities cost money.

Yet another example of PNMs already knowing what the answer is, but hoping the answer will change -- just for them.
