Thank you all! Pics are now on the "Engagement Rings" thread in General Chat!
He flew in to visit last Saturday and insisted on cooking us dinner. We went grocery shopping for the items he had on his list. Sat at the kitchen bar with wine while watching him cook all four courses! After the first course he presented me with three ring boxes to choose from. I knew what they contained because we have an inside joke about rings made out of twist-ties. After the next course he presented me with another twist-tie and a letter with all the reasons he loves me. Then, I got the last twist-tie with a letter that was written completely in song lyrics but made absolute sense when reading it (he always makes me CDs and sends them to me -- he's trying to turn me into a country music lover.) He went to go set up his laptop for the last part and then gave me dessert. After two bites he said he was full and took my plate away! I went and sat by the laptop. He'd taken all of the clips of the songs and made them into a playlist on iTunes. There were over 100 songs! So I sat there with the letter reading along as it played and towards the end he took the letter away and said he'd made some edits during the plane ride and added more. I was completely oblivious to everything around me and was trying to listen intently to the lyrics. Before I knew it he was down on one knee with a ring box. I did a double take before I realized it wasn't a twist-tie and it was a real ring! He had timed the lyrics to match up but I remember none of it! My first response wasn't even yes... it was "Oh my God, its real!" After saying yes, he told me that the text messages he'd been receiving were from an ADPi sister wanting to know if he'd popped the question yet...she'd gone with him to pick out the ring!
He'd called my dad last week to get permission -- the thing he was most concerned about. Turns out that my mom is the one who grilled him for an hour. My dad talked to him for five minutes -- Told him that he has his respect and didn't expect anyone to ask him that in the year 2008!
When I called home I was hysterical and my mom was laughing at me like she didn't know. Ironically enough.. while he was cooking dinner, I'd texted her to say that I just knew he was the one!! ... And the ever so curious fiance had stolen my phone to see what I had written to her. If I had only known!!
Hope this all makes sense! I got food poisoning this weekend and just dropped him off at the airport...what a great way to start an engagement!
