I know that many women probably have ulterior motives, but I do not! :)

Sorry if I opened a can of worms, I was just curious!

OK, you are free to participate in ABC's or whoever's philanthropy if you want to. You don't need to AI just to do that. You like philanthropy? Join the Junior League.

There are also many non-NPC sororities for women of all ages that are centered around philanthropy.

Sororities perform community service, but not being in one doesn't keep you from volunteering your time for various philanthropies, including those that have been adopted by the various sororities. Wanting to perform philanthropic work isn't a reason to join a sorority. You can do it just fine without GLO membership

Obvioiusly the other benefits of joining a sorority, such as sisterhood, are part of my reason. My college did not have a Greek system, so I was unable to rush in college even though I would have really liked to.

see my post above regarding the Junior League and the non-NPC philanthropic sororities

Well, I can see that this is going to turn into nothing more than a fiasco, so I am calling it quits.

If you are also a PNAIM and would like someone to go through this with, feel free to PM me! :) I think it would be great to have other people to talk to about the process.

Gotta love all of the generic "reasons I want to AI"
- I like their philanthropy
- I want sisterhood
- I missed out on it in college

If someone actually had a unique, personal reason and/or a personal connection, there's a lot less kickback. When it's just generic, meaningless reasons, yeah, it's not really looked highly upon.

As has been mentioned, please read the Forum information at the top of the folder, plus the Forum TOS and read back through the MANY MANY posts on this topic.

Regardless, play nice ya'll. I know we haven't had any drama around here lately and that's just fine my lil' ol' me. ;-)

It's better to be on the down low because if someone sees that you are pursuing their GLO for AI, and they think your reasons for wanting it are stupid, they might see to it that you have no chance in hell for becoming a member through AI. AFAIK, every NPC does AI (they vary in how rare it is), but in most cases, the org approaches the woman instead of vice versa. I personally don't have a problem with people asking my sorority's HQ about AI, because I know that my sorority's HQ will choose the right women for AI.

ITA^^,violetpretty.

I do feel this can be a sensitive topic, but we have to have respect for everyone here and that includes someone coming to ask questions. I just feel delivery on certain responses can be a bit harsh. There are people that come to AI for the wrong reasons, but on the flip side there are some people that are amazing. There is so much involved regarding an individual's quest for AI and I feel in the end it does work out the way it should. I always try and treat people the way I would like to be treated or I manage to remain silent.

You might have had a warmer welcome here if it weren't obvious to many people that you're "shopping."

Stop looking for drama. You've obviously read enough to figure out the PNAM acronym, which means you read enough to realize your posts would cause drama. And it's pretty generic drama at that. If you're going to start drama, at least make it entertaining.

"Eloquence is the ability to say so much with so little."

LadyLonghorn = at 35 posts, truly eloquent.

(And yes, I realize the irony of the 15,000+ poster saying this.)
