When Pike mentioned Spike Lee, I remembered an excellent college movie called Higher Learning, which I think was done by John Singleton.

I always thought Real Genius was a good college type movie im sure any engineering student would enjoy it even with all the technical inaccuracies with the laser and anyone else im sure would enjoy some of the over the top pranks in the movie. |
A really good college movie is "A Reason to Believe." I think it came out in 95. My chapter uses it in new member education. Summary from amazon.com:
"A popular girl on campus, Charlotte, attends a fraternity party while her boyfriend Wesley is out of town. When she realizes she has become too drunk, she leaves the party. But Jim, who she danced with at the party soon joins her and she is forced into a sexual encounter. Feeling ashamed and self-blame, it is difficult for her to find the courage to speak out. When she does, many of her friends do not believe her. Meanwhile, Jim honestly does not think what happened that night was rape. But as members of his own fraternity and campus feminist groups begin to unpiece the grey areas, the ensuing experience challenges the trust and friendship of college students who thought they would be friends forever." It is probably the most realistic of all the college fraternity/sorority movies out there. The "initiated brothers" scene where the fraternity members are discussing what to do with the accused member is VERY realistic, and could have been taken from any of our chapters closed meetings. The soundtrack is great. There are the few cliche scenes, but this flick comes closest to reality. |
Higher Learning was pretty good...

I'm not sure if you'd consider it a Fraternity movie but I loved...........PCU.

I know it perpetuates the horrible Greek life stereotype, blah blah blah...but I really liked the cheesy TV movie "Dying to Belong." It's about sorority stuff and has Six from Blossom & Hillary Swank in it.
And I'm so happy that there are other people in the world who have seen "The Brotherhood." All of this time, I have been ashamed...hehehe |

Yeah, around here we're big fans of "Broken Pledges: Dying to Belong." We've discussed it before. Definately one of my fav-o CHEAZY movies. |
"St. Elmo's Fire" is a good college-ish movie, but it's revolves more around a group of friends and how they've changed 2 or so yrs. after college. I know it has Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe(I think) and Andie McDowell in it, I believe.

Speaking of trashy movies with Six from Blossom in them.... she's also in my personal favorite made for TV movie, "She Cried No," where Zack Morris from Saved By the Bell as a cocky "Kappa Pi" frat boy rapes an innocent freshman as played by DJ from Full House.
You'll never see so many cliches in one place... and with such an all star cast, how can you resist???? *C* |
