Well if your heart is set on starting a new org then i guess go for it. but there are some things to consider before you do so, most importantle, what are you going to do that makes your org a different/better/etc alternative to what is already there?
I know at USF you better a have a darn good answer to that question (among others) to even be considered for membership on any of the expanding councils. Just some food for thought. good luck with whatever you choose to do |
Oh trust I saw your question!! ;-) I just wanted a sorority for our female students. I attend a conservatory which accepts very few students who are very focus in their art. So why not established something new?
|
Do you have any other interested individuals or are you planning on doing everything on your own? If everyone (including yourself) if very focused on their crafts, will there be time for Greek life?
And to clarify my original question, what would be the difference between the sorority you're trying to create and the one that currently exists? Not trying to dissuade you from creating this organization, just asking something that will undoubtedly come up. |
The school I attend is where we are receiving our BFA(Bachelor of Fine Arts). In the dance division, we are trained from ballet technique to traditional west african movement. Now what sets this organization out from any other organization from other colleges is discipline, dedication, and intense training that we are later pursuing as a career in the dance field. This chapter will use our "gift" to share throughout the community as well as strive to build better dance programs in the school system. My apology if I on a tantrum!!:-) But did I answer your question Matsimela??

Check out this link. It should give you some guidance. BTW, what's the name of the current dance sorority that you're aware of? |

I do have others that are interested and thought it was a great idea....There will be time for Greek Life, it's not like we live in the studios! lol The difference between this sorority and existing dance sororities, is that we are doing something that we love to do, training going to school for....we eat, sleep and breathe dance, while at the same time, forming a bond of "sisterhood" within the dance field.

Um I think you're confused knight shadow...my apology wasn't to you...lol...but to answer your question, it was Zeta Tau Alpha of Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. Thanks for the link!!
|
ZTA is not a dance sorority. I checked the Brenau website and it appears Tau Sigma is the dance group. It's not clear if it's only honorary or not.

There is Phi Beta which is a professional fraternity focused on performing arts. The question I am asking though is this. Do you want to form a social sorority based on friendship, or one that is focused on helping dance majors succeed in the world? the two are quite different.
