Politics is NEVER just about politics. This is just the first time that we've had anything OTHER THAN older white males running for a key political office. Prior to this race and gender couldn't be an issue so they found other things to highlight.

If we ever have a middle to lower class person run for president (who knows how they'd fund their campaign) that would be a huge issue, too, because it's different and socioeconomic status is a symbol of something. Just like factors like gender and race (and age, since Obama's younger and has been accused of lacking experience) are.

(who knows how they'd fund their campaign)

food stamps.

Yes.

Ageism is a term and if you were actually doing something more profound than trying to "prove a point" you could be an "ageist."

damn...glad I was just kidding....

Exactly. It's just so stupid...it doesn't make sense.

After hearing her comments again twice this evening, I can see how the context makes it seem like her comments were a racially charged, poor attempt at dismissing Obama's success over Hillary. The intent seemed to be highlighting Obama's race to say "he's only gotten over Hillary because he's black."

She said her comment was taken out of context and that she really meant to state that Obama supporters, particularly blacks who support him, have come out in full force. She says she was commending Obama supporters.

I don't know. I guess perception is reality and her intent is a bit questionable. Maybe she should've left it alone, regardless of who the messenger is/her race, even if she used her Vice Presidential run as an analogy.

Let me preface this post by saying I'm not white.

Whether we [you know, Americans] like it or not, race is a factor in this election.

It may not be a huge one, but it's definitely one of the elements.

^^^ You ain't white?

DAMN I am out of the loop.

Or forgetful.

Sadfly 03-14-2008 06:10 PM

I agree.

Race and gender will always be factors in this election.

I can/can't say something because I am/am not XXX.

I'm voting for the person that I believe in. Whether or not, he/she wins is another matter.
