Because hastily-typed, not-proofread and misspelled-for-all-eternity thread titles really get me chapped.

DSTCHAOS 03-06-2008 01:58 PM

He was mad.

nittanyalum 03-06-2008 02:01 PM

No excuse. ;)

DSTCHAOS 03-06-2008 02:08 PM

DUH. I'm being amused by his emotions.

nittanyalum 03-06-2008 02:12 PM

Yes, I know. Me too.

As members of organizations which all claim to have such high moral and humanitarian objectives, you would never know it from some of these remarks. Is it because everyone can anonymous? I cannot imagine making such vile statements in a face-to-face converstion with someone (or if you do you must get a lot of fat lips!). Let's pray that not many potential members check out this site as this behavior will surely chase them away from Greek life.

Too bad the detractors followed you over from the Phi Beta Kappa thread. I totally agree with your observations. I lay part of the blame at the feet of MTV and rap music. Kids listen to incredible garbage today and are completely desensitized to words and language that we never would have considered using.

I do think, despite Mr. Darden's chest-thumping identity revelation, that typing away at a remote computer instead of speaking face to face with someone makes bullying and poor manners even easier. My kids have shown me some of the things that their friends--who I actually thought had pretty decent language and behavior--have typed on facebook and instant messaging. It is sometimes shocking.

Culture and society have definitely coarsened. That makes me sad. Now I will await the flurry of snarks that will undoubtedly follow.

PS I do visit two other chat boards that have much better manners. One is a financial site--pretty neutral topics ie budgeting etc.--but the other is political. Even there people don't make the mean-spirited, personal jabs that they do here.

(from the PBK thread)

tend to rub people the wrong way. So does saying some groups are more elite than others based on some totally random cross listing.

You have all of 6 posts. So either you're some random person whose opinion we shouldn't care about, or you're a sockpuppet. If you're a random person, way to join a message board then just start bitching about it and its members. If you don't like it, why did you come here. If you're a sockpuppet, well then hope you like that keyboard courage.

Oh please. No one made any personal jabs at oldu (at least not until he called everyone angry and rude); they merely called into question the argument that s/he seemed to be making. If it is unconditional acquiescence s/he searchs for, s/he will not find it here (and maybe its best that s/he goes elsewhere). Disagreement does not automatically equal rudeness.

ETA: If society has indeed coarsened--which, if the biography I am reading about Elizabeth I is at all accurate, it hasn't really; it's different, but certainly no more coarse--then I mostly blame the parents, not the TV.

Time can bring you down,
Time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart,
Have you begging please, begging please.

Beyond the door,
There's peace I'm sure,

Tears in heaven.

This song always makes me cry.

Sorry I LOVE this song too! I remember all those I have lost and look forward seeing them again in heaven.

Ohhhhh, was this thread intended to be invisible? For shame!

He made a thread to cry about his other thread. Those will always get the same response.

Please don't assume that all the regulars on gc are "kids" because they are not and quite a bit of intelligent conversation goes on but if you just started posting recently, I doubt you've had time to peruse the thousands of threads yet.
