And FYI, per NPC Unanimous Agreements, no men are allowed at recruitment events.

Well I don't know, but that's where you would meet the sisters of a potential sorority you would like to join, at a mixer between that sorority and a fraternity, or at a OPEN party.

I'm pretty sure I know the school you go to.

i realize schools do things differently... but to sororities there seriously give out bids after meeting random girls at fraternity parties?

... even if that is the case, you don't need to have the founders/greek alphabet memorized.

No, you would have had to attended a majority of there parties that they had held. You need to know these girls. You can't attend one of there parties, go to there bid night and expect a bid. Sorry. Should have cleared that up :)

I was just saying that the whole "day schedule of going to different houses and meeting the girls, and then putting your first choices on a bid" doesn't happen here.

I wish that did happen here, I would like that much better. It would be easier to get involved and meet more people.

And these are NPC sororities, not locals?

Yes, at least the one that the OP is interested in.

My guess is that the school has little alumni advising support and little structure as a Panhellenic if a Greek Life Office even exists. They might not even know that an NPC Unanimous Agreement does not allow men to be at recruitment parties, or they do, and there's no local authority that cares to stop it from happening.

The SUNY schools have a mix of NPCs and regionals/locals. The locals outnumber the NPCs. What the OP talked about can go under the banner of unstructured recruitment, or whatever the "just COB up to total" structure is called. That is, they don't refer to the mixers or parties as rush parties.

I know it sounds odd to people who are used to a really structured rush, but that's just the way it is there and probably unlikely to change soon.

I believe most of the SUNY schools have Modified Recruitment. At least one I know of is totally Continuous Recruitment. They are like that because it is the best way for PNMs to stay in recruitment and learn about the sorority chapters. They probably had a formal recruitment at one point and it didn't work for them.

What exactly does that mean, Continuous Recruitment?

That the groups give out bids whenever they feel like it and people start pledging whenever the groups feel like it. There is no structured period where people sign up for rush, panhel sets a quota (i.e. number of members each group can take), and bids have a set date to be distributed.

lauralaylin 03-10-2008 01:33 PM

There are now four different types of NPC recruitment. Formallly Structured is what you typically hear about with release figures, invitational rounds, etc. Then there's Partially Structured, Minimally Structured, and Continuous Recruitment. PSR and MSR seem to be different at every school, but typically PSR has a quota and at least one invitational, and MSR will often times not have quota or even bid matching. CR is basically like COB all the time, and there is no quota. Everyone can bid up to total.
