I said it before in earler posts...anyone worth his salt knew that Jordan was coming back. Reggie White came out due to need. and honestly the only other person whose unretirement caused controversy was Magic Johnson's.....for obvious reasons.... Quote:
I don't fault the Green Bay organization...please check out what I just wrote....Favre should have had his mind made up in March....either play or stay retired or immediately ask to go somewhere else. I have never been a Favre fan but you cannot doubt his ability...he can make a team good and I think he can get the Jets out of the rut that they have been in, but seriously, the man needs to make his mind up. |

He is almost 39 years old, he doesnt have time to sit it out for a year or more. He realized that this summer and decided that his days were numbered to play football and he decided not to let these last few hoorahs slip past him. As far as "should I draft a QB or not this year" TT took care of that years ago when he first wanted Brett to retire and has made it pretty clear at the end of every season that he doesnt really want Brett there anymore. Aaron has been there as #2 being groomed so that wasnt an issue. You can say that anyone worth his salt knew that Jordan was coming back, but I say that anyone worth their salt knew Brett Favre would be back. My husband laughed at him during his retirement speech and said he will be back by July. There is no way he is done. !/2 the people I talked to pretty much said the same thing. So whats the difference. oh and here is one list I googled, but there was a bigger one somewhere. oops sorry that was the wrong list ... I will try to find it later I have to give the dog a bath lol |

Emmitt Smith - retired after Arizona opted to not pick him up Thurman Thomas retired due to injury Jerry Rice - bounced from the Niners...played in the Disaster Bowl (Super Bowl XXXVII) and lost to the Bucs....played a season with the Seahawks and since no one picked him up...also retired. Cris Carter and tim Brown - ditto...tried to get with other clubs but due to age...just didn't make the cut Tom Boselli retired due to injury... The last 3 guys aren't even in the same category as the above listed players and no where near Favre.... that list is a list of players and how thier careers ended....you were doing better when you had Reggie White on that list....but still not in the same ballpark with favre and his flip flopping. |
I know I deleted that list when I realized it was not from the same thread I read it on a few weeks ago. Sorry that was not the list I meant to fpost. Anyway, I stated there are few players at the level of play Brett is and of course I can not produce that sort of list because it is just impossible, but many pro athletes do retire and change their mind to come back.

If you were a Favre fan you would feel passionately about this too, but admittedly you cant stand the man, so you wouldnt see his side of things. People either love him or hate him, I havent met many who could care less, except my mother. |

Steve McNair ( and some of us Ravens fans are kind of hot about this because he waited so late!) especially if he still expected to start. ETA: it's not many players that retire at the top of their game and have the option to come back because they STILL got game...therefore when you have players like Favre who never seem to quit....it's a circus. |

All the cap issues are the same, there isn't any real downside (two NFL-caliber starters is a "problem" anyone would love to have), and the team had every opportunity to sign a new starter to take his place and make the whole thing moot from 2004 to today. His teammates don't care - see Al Harris's "I'm a captain, and I speak for the team - we'd welcome him back with open arms" speech - and the "media circus" lasts, what, 3 weeks during training camp? Seriously. Camp. Not even the voluntary offseason activities, that are way more important for implementing a system. Add to this the exceptional amount of money and prestige that Favre has brought to the organization, and the front office comes out WAY on top in this deal, regardless of the "will he/won't he" thing. Indeed, the same thing that made him a great quarterback makes it hard for him to retire. |

It would have been worth it 3 or 4 years ago.....think about it....how many playoffs and Super Bowls has Favre gotten them to every since the R word started getting tossed around? If Last season was like the 06 season, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.
Since their last Super Bowl in 97...... 5 or 6 playoff appearances and MOST of those are Wild Card wins..... |
