I'm sorry, I should have clarified that I meant many groups often flaunt school policy and not imply that it is something unique to NPHC groups. I say it happens in socials more often because how often do you see in various student newspapers that a social is losing their charter for breaking various policies? A lot more often than you see non-greeks, guaranteed. |

But it could as easily have been any of the others....we're talking 19 years ago! I'm a little brain dead at this point! LOL |

Also, I didn't list the schools that have self-contained chapters of NPHC organization, which include Howard and UDC. But here is an addendum of NPHC and NALFO orgs which have self-contained chapters at DC schools: Howard: All 9 orgs UDC: All 9 orgs GW: All sororities are self contained (AKA, Delta, Zeta, LPC, SLU) but none of the fraternities are American: AKA and Phi Beta Sigma are self-contained (but I think PBS would be open to Georgetown men) I would guess that your RA joined the AKAs at American...I'm going to look into that now, curiosity is getting the best of me. MVC has a history and culture that ought to be studied a little more. |
"On February 25, 1977, the charter members were initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Inc., and Lambda Zeta Chapter was chartered at American University on February 26, 1977. At one time the Lambda Zeta chapter included young women from Mount Vernon College, which is now George Washington University at Mount Vernon, and Georgetown University, until the city chapter, Omicron Pi was chartered." http://aulambdazeta-aka.org/Page1History.html#History |
I'm so sad it only took 2 minutes to find that out. Now what am I going to do with the rest of my morning? :(

I'm also not saying you didn't agree to follow rules and regs of the host campus, but that doesn't mean you were bound to them by anything other than your word. You're a good person of character, obviously, but there are plenty of people out there who are not, and schools have taken steps to protect themselves and their students from liability. Part of that is limiting who may participate in groups that are sponsored and recognized by that campus. Those two brothers I talked about who were pledged in when according to the rules they should've have...they were some of the most dedicated to APO people I have seen, especially considering they stayed involved at the Section staff level while they were waiting until they transferred. One of them had been in APO for 3 1/2 years when their membership was nullified, when they had been told previously that everything was OK. |

One example would be our Beta Delta chapter, hosted on the campus of Temple University and it includes Temple, La Salle, Drexel, and Univ. of PA. |
