I stand before you , humble and in awe.
Actually, that's the kind of information I really LOVE! It shows you know your stuff! Accolades to you, and thanks! |
OK I remember now - I also loved Bye Bye Birdie, Guys and Dolls, and of course - Wizard of Oz! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Great Topic newbie http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif!
I am a Les Mis kina kid. Saw in NYC on New Years Eve a few yeas ago. Was cool, because the show ended about 30 min before midnight, and the cast came out and the whole theater and cast sang the new years song, "Should old aquaintences be forgot." (I do know the name of the song, but wont even attempt to spell it: Auld... thats as far as I can get.) Then everyone poured out into times square for the ball drop. Too cool. #2 Mame. Show rocks. #3 Brigadoon. Awesome show. |
Ok, so I can't say I've EVER been to New York, but oh well. Absolute all time favorite is "West Side Story"! I have only ever seen the movie though. Yet I can practically recite it, with Puerto Rican accents and all! I also love "Godspell." They did it at my HS. It's kinda like JC Superstar, but not as weird (in my humble opinion). I was in "Bye Bye Birdie" and loved it, but got sick of singing "We love you Conrad, oh yes we do!" (Ironically enough, I came to college, pledged ZTA, and it turns out our chapter has a cheer to the tune of that song.) I also love "Into the Woods." Soooo funny! And of course "Grease," but it's just a classic. Have you ever seen "Grease 2"? I love the song "Cool Rider"!

Eh, no order. Really, I love music, so anything will do. But I particularly like Cats, The Lion King on Broadway, Grease, and Annie!

My all time favorite musical is Cats. I've seen it four times!
My other favorite is Starlight Express. Both Starlight and Cats are Andrew Loyd Webber shows. A new favorite of mine is called Mama Mia! I saw it in London a few months ago thinking I would'nt like it. This is due to the fact that it was written and produced by the 1970s pop group ABBA. I ended up loving it!!! It is scheduled to open on Broadway in NY this fall. |
Lisa,
Actually the two men from ABBA also wrote the music to "Chess" which is another great musical. Tim Rice, who wrote the lyrics for many of the early Lloyd Webber shows, wrote the lyrics for Chess also. He also did The Lion King and Aida for Disney with Elton John's music. I've also seen Rent in NY and on the road and really liked it a lot. Thanks to whomever mentioned Into The Woods above. I'd forgotten about that. All three of my kids have been in that show either professionally or in high school. Sondheim is amazing. Also, The Secret Garden has beautiful music. BTW, I agree with the comment about Lloyd Webber vis a vis taking a catchy tune and using it over and over. I don't find a lot of true genious in his later stuff (certainly not like Sondheim), but I do find a lot of his stuff entertaining. Wow, I didn't realize how many people liked Mame. I was in a production of it a few years back, but didn't realize it was so popular.
DeltAlum, what parts did your kids play in Into the Woods? I've always wanted to play Little Red Riding hood, but never had the chance http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif |
Juniorgrrl,
Oldest daughter played the Baker's Wife and son played Jack in a local professional production. One of his very good friends from his HS played Little Red. Middle daughter was in the chorus in a HS production. Interestingly, Oldest daughter is getting married next month to the guy who played the Baker opposite her. This is a fun thread for those who like Musical Theatre. DeltAlum |
I love this topic!!!
I am a musical theater fiend!!! I think it all got started when I was taking dance back in the day. The ladies that owned the dance studio would recreate a Broadway musical every year for us to dance in. We performed Cats, Alice in Wonderland, Starlight Express, and The Phantom of the Opera while I was there. My all time favorites had to be Starlight Express and The Phantom of the Opera. I also love The King and I, Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, and Fiddler on the Roof (absolutely amazing production!!!) I'm dying to see Aida...I've heard it was awesome! Allison |
I was in three musicals in high school...Crazy for You, Damn Yankees, and Joseph and the Amazing Techinicolored Dreamcoat.
My favorites include... Joseph Rent Godspell Jesus Christ Superstar Into the Woods Chorus Line |
My absolute favorite musical is Guys and Dolls!!! Second would have to be West Side Story.

Annie, baby ... Ha ha ha!
We used Annie's song for our LipSinc, and then I kindda get addicted to the "It's a hard life" song ... weird! Also, Oklahoma! is another good musical, I think, we (as ISU) played that during this year's VEISHEA (our celebration), and it was so cool! |

[B] Musical that I loathe the most: GREASE. Sorry Grease fans. When your name's Sandy and your last name HAPPENS to start with D, you're obviously the target of many rounds of "LOOK AT ME I'M SANDRA DEE". It gets annoying after 20 years. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif OTW, I feel your pain! If I had a dime for everytime I've been 'serenaded' with "Maria" from West Side Story and The Sound of Music, I wouldn't have to work! The song that makes me the most irritated by far is "Take a Letter Maria." But getting back on topic, you can never go wrong with Les Miz --I sobbed through the whole second act. And I can't believe that not a soul has mentioned My Fair Lady! A wonderful musical AND one of my all time favorites movies too. |
