Usually my research just came from random sites. Look on religious web sites, or cultural sites. For instance, the lotus it typically a Buddhist symbol, and while I'm not Buddhist, I loved the symbolism. I know a guy who got a biohazard symbol, because he specializes in infectious diseases - so your symbolism can be something like that. I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted the lotus - it symbolized exactly what I was feeling at the time and it still means so much to me.

Yeah - did you get one????

No, I haven't gotten it yet. I went to a tatoo parlor last Thursday to check out some designs while my friend got her belly button pierced. I saw a few that I liked...a dove, a butterfly, a rose...you know, girly stuff.

I was thinking about getting something sorority related but I haven't decided yet. Our symbol is the butterfly so I was thinking about getting that possibly with our letters underneath it.

Still looking...I want to find just the right one before I have it etched into my body!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Howdy! Last Friday, I went and got a tattoo. I'm the founding member of Sigma Alpha at Texas A&M. Call me crazy, but it was just spur of the moment. I got REALLY lucky, I like mine. I think you're doing the right thing by finding something you like. Best of luck! And let us know what you got!

Well I finally did it!!! Me and two of my friends got matching butterfly tatoos. It is really cool. It is bright blue on the outside with purple on the inside http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Cool AOX!

You know what we should do? Take pictures of our tattoos and scan em so we can paste them up here. LOL.

Ok, I have mine online already. I have a photo album thing online. It's kinda blurry, but you can basically tell what it is. It's a heart with tribal thorns coming from each side.

OH MY GOD I THOUGHT MIKKI WAS ABOUT TO CYBER MOON ALL OF US!

I hadnt reads the thread and just scrolled down to the bottom and saw that. Imagaine the noise I made thinking one of us finally had the courage to moon some of the fools we get on here!

Nice tatt MK.

I want one, but have been trying to decide for 10 years now what to get.... And to think someone once called me indecisive. Huh...

Nice tattoo, Mikki!

Lifesaver, I thought the same thing too!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

When I went to get my tattoo, I thought that it was going to be just something small, about the size of the bottom of a can...
Well, because I wanted a Celtic sun with intricate knotwork done, they had to expand the size... now the sun covers the middle portion of my back with the rays shooting of in all directions. It much much bigger than I had intended for my first tattoo, but I love it and am forver getting compliments.

So - people with tattoo - are they worth it?

I want one
I've known exactly what I wanted for about 3 years, I'm just too big of a B!+(# to go get it.

If I did - It would be a griffin
for those of you who do not know what that is. It's bascially a a mythical animal typically having the head, forepart, and wings of an eagle and the body, hind legs, and tail of a lion. It sort of represents strength, by combining the best parts of two different animals.

It's not an egotistical thing - I just enjoy the figure, and it could inspire me, I think

nevertheless - should I get it?

I have one of a butterfly on my WAY lower back... that way my parents will never see it. If they did, they would kill me.

I say just go for it! You only live once, the pain goes away, and you'll have a beautiful piece on your body. Tattoos make great statements.. just make sure that your's says what you want it to.

Let me know how it works out.

Mine really didn't hurt at all. It did hurt a little bit while he was doing the outline, but nothing unbearable. Of course, mine is kinda almost on my butt, so there's a little more padding there than in other places...

purpleturtle 07-16-2001 03:13 AM

OKay, I know this is a really old topic, but I JUST GOT A TATTOO and I wanted to share!!!

Mine is a turtle (the Delta Zeta mascot) on the top of my foot. I know that it is kind of an odd placement, but I didn't want it high on my ankle, and when the artist suggested it and drew it, it looked great!!!
It's kind of a cartoon looking turtle, with the green feet and head, but the shell is a daisy, and it's in a profile.
I have been thinking about getting one forever, and when I finally decided to do it, I knew I wanted a turtle, because it means so much to me. I have had a really hard year, a violent relationship that took me forever to get out of, and other set-backs, and during all of this, my big (actually grandbig- the story is in greeklife under My Big Sister) gave me a framed turtle print with our motto, "Behold the turtle; She only makes progress when she sticks her neck out." on it, to remind me that I just had to have courage.
Now I not only have that picture, but everytime I look down I am reminded of how much courage I have and that I can make it through anything!!

In the Flame,
Missy

I have an image in my mind about girls with tatoos. I AM WORKING ON IT!
I AM SORRY! I REALLY, REALLY AM TRYING!

No worries, worriedsenior... I have come across a few people that are very ANTI-TATTOO. I've even had to have the unfortunate (and often awkward) *cough* "after date" conversation of "oh, you have a tattoo!?!" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif (it's on my back, so I sometimes forget its even there)

To each their own, right?
