if you are going to transfer and still pledge next semester than KA is a good choice if you are going to stay in the South as generally they are top-tier. SAE is also very strong and Sigma Chi has good chapters too

where u go to school btw? the user name got me interested lol

*slight hijack*

Dude, you are going to one of the best business schools in the country and you want to transfer? I think you should stay at USC. And yes, I'm bias because I graduated from there.

*end hijack*

Duke info: Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi and Kappa Alpha Order are all on-campus fraternities that are recognized by IFC and have housing on campus. Kappa Sigma and Sigma Alpha Epsilon are no longer affiliated with their national organizations, in fact "SAE" is now affiliated with a different national fraternity. (Everyone at Duke still calls them "Kappa Sig" and "SAE", though.) They are both off-campus and, thus, do not have on-campus housing. I'm pretty sure "Kappa Sig" is also not associated with the national organization because they tried to go by a different name for a while. Anyway, if you were a Kappa Sig or SAE at USC and then transferred you would not be a member of either of these groups.

The other national is Alpha Delta Phi. They haven't been SAE for over six years. I believe that SAE is recruiting next year

SAE is starting a new chapter at Duke next year? That should be interesting and confusing considering everyone still calls the old SAE/Alpha Delta Phi guys "SAE"!

Alright i'm in an interesting situation and i need a little advice from the people here, i have been reading posts for the past few weeks looking for some information and i finally decided to register here and post my question.

I'm a freshman at the University of South Carolina (GO COCKS!), and i am going to be pledging this spring to a fraternity.

I have narrowed it down to Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Sigma, or Kappa Alpha Order. All of them are pretty solid here, but i wish it was that easy.

I am originally from Georgia, and i wanted to go to UGA but couldn't get in, so i might try and transfer back there Freshman year. I'm also considering transferring to UVA, Duke, or Wake Forest.

So the question is, has anyone heard good things about these fraternties at any of these schools. I don't know where i want to go, so i want to be sure if i join a fraternity here i like and transfer, that i'll still be with a good group of guys i like, because i am not sure about my future plans.

I know thats an off the wall question, but if anyone has insight at any of these schools, please fill me in.

Just because you like one chapter at one school does not neccessarily mean you might like the people in another chapter if that makes sense. Yea, we should all love our brothers/sisters in other chapters, but you have to remember, each campus has it's own climate, and each chapter could possibly be different.

If you fit in with chapter at one school, you might not fit with a different chapter as their dynamics may be completely different than your first chapter.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there.

true, nice name by the way :)

and i think i got a plan down to pat, i'm gonna stay at USC all the way through or until junior year and try to go to UVA for the McIntire school of commerce. As far as i know anyone of those fraternities is solid up there.

i think i'm worrying too much cause i'm the first kid in the family to go to college so i want to be as succesful as possible and not get caught up in partying.

appreciate all the info guys.

i'll give yall an update on what i choose to do come january after rush week.

Lucky, you are not the first of a family on here that went to college.:)

While you may feel you have a great plan laid out, 4-5 years can change a lot.

Just take one step at a time and see what develops!

First school, I wanted to educate. Second school, I changed to business.

So it do happen!:);)

My uncle is a Sigma Nu, and all of the other chapters you mentioned are at my University. I have friends in all of the ones you mentioned, I guess what you are looking for specifically would depend upon whatever school you decide to go to and the specific chapter.

Well, bizarre word (tinnier) notwithstanding, I'm with you on this. DU's a good one :) One of my brothers went up to USC for the UF@USC game, had a good time with the Gamecock DUs, so that's cool. Also, the what, 5? 7? touchdowns by Tebow must have helped too.
