Hopefully they won't now that you've called them out. :D

I wouldn't put money on that. We've seen this debate so many times, and I know I've seen people explain why it's a horrible example, and then we see someone throw it out there again 15 posts later, after the thread dies and then gets bumped.

It may take another n00b and a year or two, but it will happen.;):D

My farternity chapter uses "fraternity" and we call each other out when one of calls us a "frat." I like the country analogy.

AF, I was hoping someone would call them out before anyone actually brought it up, but, like you, I wouldn't be surprised if it still comes up.

And even if this topic was discussed before, I'm sure it was boring the first time around... Lame thread to begin with IMO.

Sorry -- I know it was a typo, but it was a humorously ironic typo.

And whether you like the country analogy doesn't really make it any better an analogy. It's a stupid analogy because it compares apples and oranges. However much you may dislike the word "frat," that word is not and never has been considered an obscenity.

Perhaps an edit in the first 2 words is desirable?

And wow, AF, within 3 minutes of your prediction! That must be a record!

ETA: And I wondered about the "PhiGam" thing too when I first saw the username, the FIJIs on my campus were militant about ONLY being called FIJI.

Seriously, it got posted WHILE I was posting my response to AF (so mine looks like I didn't read the thread).

That's the one about newbies who feel snarked looking back at that person's previous posts to determine that they are not, in fact, special. I just haven't had time to formulate it into a nice concise statement of law yet.;)

Oh, of course.

DSTCHAOS 12-03-2007 12:05 PM

You wouldn't call your country a "cunt."

You wouldn't call your farternity a "fart."

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.

That sounds like two laws to me, I'm a little confused. I get the part about newbies feeling snarked on (of course I understand that one. Sigh.) but then there seems like there's a second part about them looking back at their own posts, or did you mean you looking back at their old posts to prove they're not special? That's where I get confused... If it's going to be a law, it needs to be easily understandable. Just trying to help ya formulate it coherently! :D
