For some extra coin i'm waiting tables/bartending out here . . . and yeah, people are ridiculous. Like if i'm taking some plates away from a table . . . hm, hands are full - but sure, I can take 6 drink orders from you right now, and bring you the salt from the next table over, oh yes guacamole, that'll be extra but i'll get it right now, yes those are in fact tostados . . . yes i know what that means.
Anyway - last weekend a couple came in, sat down, were very curt w/ me, whatever though - I took their order and brought some drinks. B/c they acted all pissed off, i paid more attention to them, brought them things first and stopped by a lot. Well, the food gets stuck behind 2 lg groups, takes a little longer than usual - not more than 10 minutes though, seriously. Well they eat, i come when they drop napkin and the guy actually says: "We have theatre tickets, and it starts in 3 minutes. Can you bring the ticket now please? The food took too long, and we're going to be late. I paid a lot for these tickets . . . you understand." The tip? one dollar, on a forty dollar ticket (aka 2.5%) . . . thanks buddy, b/c it's my fault that chorizo takes that long to cook. I'll be fine with my $3.09 an hour, I don't need your help at all. I love the job though - just hate the people some times. Every time you work, you get at least one of 'those tables' . . . |
I wish I had a dollar for everytime a customer got on my nerves...I could quit for the rest of my life. I work at a Lady Foot Locker store in a mall that's near a private high school. EVERYDAY without fail, these little high school girls come in, try on 3-5 pairs shoes, and either just leave w/o saying anything, or will be like "I'm gonna ask my mom..." Don't come in my store just to waste MY time. Another thing I hate is when little kids (like 11 or 12) with big feet come in--wearing like a women's 6. Either they like the shoe but not the color and I get frustrated, or we don't have whatever they want and the parent gets frustrated and mad at me. Or, if we have a shoe for $19.99--everyone wants it and gets mad b/c we don't have it in their size. No one ever stops to think that its on sale b/c it may be old or the last one. And then the little bad a$$ kids that come in and take shoes off the wall......trust me, I could go on.

I also work in a grocery store. I think that I now hate most people because of this. I know that I don't get the best people in the world in my store, but nonetheless the people who do come into my store have pretty much turned me away from everyone.
I swear that most customers cannot read. They pick up the wrong size or whatnot of a sale item, then complain when it's not the price they wanted it to be. This happens all the time. I hate when customers throw their items onto the conveyor (sp?) belt. They act like they're angry at the world, so they have to take it out on me somehow by throwing things. The way people handle their money is another pet peeve that I have. I hate when a customer hands me wadded-up bills. I also like money to face in the same direction, but most customers just have their money all mixed up. I also don't like it when customers throw their money at me, or refuse to put it in my hand. I just want to throw their change in their faces after they do that. grr. I have so many more complaints, but I'm going to end with this one. Two words: Stinky Bob. Stinky Bob is an old man who frequently shops at the store where I work. As evidenced by the name, he doesn't smell nice. I can smell Stinky Bob before I can see him. He wears the exact same clothes every day. His white shirt is now yellow and brown, and sometimes smeared with dog poo. He leaves a trail of odor where he's been. It's horrible. I really do not know why he never bathes. He smells so bad that I don't know how he never smells himself. eww. |
When I used to be a bagger at a local grocery store, once this lady brought like 40 items and wanted me to put it all in one bag! And then she threw a tamtrum when I smashed some stuff because there was no room! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Back when I was in school, I worked in a retail clothing shop. We had this one woman who came in once a month and purchased $400- $500 worth of clothing... woo-hoo, big sale, right?
Nope, three weeks later, she would come in to return every single piece! We had a very liberal, no sale is ever final, kind of return policy, and she took advantage of it. The clothes she brought back had obviously been worn (several times) - they stank to high heaven and had food stains on them. She did this for six or seven months in a row... we complained to our district manager every time and asked if we could not return her money but we were never given permission to do that... until.... My DM was in the store one day when this lady came in to make her monthly return. When the DM saw the shape these clothes were in. She gave her the money back for her purchase and then banned her from the store for life. |
I worked at McDonalds when I was in High School....I used to work in the drive through section. When a customers food is not ready quickly we have them move up into a parking spot so the rest of the drive through line can continue and we wont have build up...this lady had orders half a million things including 6 20 piece nuggets. We had just had many many nugget orders and we had none left. it takes 3 minutes to cook nuggets and u can only cook like 60 at a time. She had been waiitng like 2 minutes and she came tot he drive through window to yell at us...mind u we had a huge line we were trying to serve. she started freaking out and cursing and throwing all the things that were in the window...sauces were splattering on the walls and napkins were everywhere...lol..when I asked her to stop she said if we had gotten her #$%^ nuggets she wouldnt have had to do that...my manager called her crazy and told to never come back! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif It was always an interesting job.

I had a couple jobs working with customers in HS, but I started to think everyone was a moron so I had to start doing temp jobs, which is even worse, believe me. Anyways I use to work at Old Navy. Boy was that a treat. The thing about Old Navy is that they don't keep anything on stock in the back so if you don't see it on display, we don't have it. People never understood this though, they would yell and scream and demand to see the manager. They thought I was just being lazy(you know the usual dumb teenager). It was great to see them get all embarassed when the manager told them the same thing. If you want to see a great collection of stupid customers rent "Clerks", you will feel their pain.

Gee, thanks for the tip, lady...you know, I was planning on putting them at the very bottom of the bag and then throwing a gallon of milk on top of them, but I'm glad you told me the proper way to do it. Now that I think about it, I should have smashed them anyway. That would have been funny. Not only was this annoying to put up with, it was insulting. I mean honestly, to some customers, grocery baggers are a lower form of life than cockroaches. But there was nothing we could do about their attitude, so we just had to endure the abuse. I would have paid money for one chance to look a customer in the eye and say, "I'm not stupid, you know." |
Sophomore year of college I was working as a waitress and I was waiting on a table with a mom, another adult woman and a little girl of around 7 or 8. I had established a nice rapport with the table, and the little girl said to me that she wanted to work in a restaurant when she grew up (hey, she was a little kid, so obviously she didn't really understand what she was saying!). The mother, however, got pretty huffy (or as 33Girl would say, she got her knickers in a twist!)and said to her daughter, "YOU are going to COLLEGE" Grrrrrr! I hope the kid grew up to be a lapdancer!

Oh boy...the amount of responses i got to this forum just goes to say how stupid people can be...in addition to the "in the back" pet peeve, i hate it when stupid customers all want something for nothing...like, hello this is the new millenium, nothing material is really free anymore, ya dumbass!
and then ok last night i had two interesting incidents take place. there was only 2 other people closing w/ me last night, since friday and saturday is only our busy days in blockbuster. so anyway for some reason there was still a huge line at 9 pm. this old lady starts bitching about how shes been in line and i wanted to laugh so hard when my ex said, "ma'am, when you go to jewel or the post office, you wait in line. same goes here for blockbuster." and then there is a reason why it says right outside on the video box how Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is subtitled. I've had people come in and bitch 3 days later about how they "didn't know" that it was subtitled (Dammit if you want to see the dubbed version get your ass a DVD player coz the DVD gives u options!). Okay, we would give them a 3.69 credit for it, but unforunately, Crouching Tiger is a 2 day rental, and they returned the movie late so it has a late fee 3.69 slapped to it--and 3 days later? YOU KNOW THEY SAW THE MOVIE IN THE WHOLE TIME THEY KEPT IT ALREADY AND THEY STILL WANT A FREE ONE...so of course, the 3.69 credit and 3.69 late fee cancels out. Whenever I say "sir this movie is still returned late so i could only take off the late fee"....and of course I have to prepare myself for cuss words, yelling, and how "see, that's why you guys are getting sued!" *for some reason people think we just randomly slap late fees on their movies too. yeah right, do i get a share of our profits? no i dont so why would i wanna do that anyway?* ------------------ "To supress our feelings only makes them stronger"--from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon |
i used to work at Dairy Queen, and just like everywhere else, people were jerks. What I hated most was when people would order something special, and then say, "make sure they make that right" one time a guy said that, and one of the managers was running the cash register. she turns around and relays the message, so real loud i say, "Ohhhhh, you want me to make it the way it says on the screen, and not just throw whatever i want on it" laying on the sarcasm REAL thick. the dude just gives me the evil eye, says something to her about my attitude, so i just smile at him and make his food.
There was one couple that would always order regular hamburgers, and then bring them back and say they ordered them loaded, so they could get it free. one lady would get her food, pay with a 5 or whatever, and then come back and claim to pay with a 20. she would also sit in the dining room until it got cold, and then complain because it was cold. and she stole toilet paper. one lady would order ice cream and take it home, and then call back 20 min. later and complain that it was melted, or that it was made wrong. she did this about 5 times, without ever checking it in the restaurant, or bringing it back in. finally she was asked never to come back. one year, at 4th of july, the owner had his 11 year old son in the parking lot asking people not to park there and walk to the school to watch fireworks, that the parking lot was for customers. one lady brushed him off and did it anyway, so the owner called a tow truck. she was very pissed when she came back about 2 hours later, and when the owner explained why he did it, she says, "well i was going to buy something after the fireworks, but not now. and i'm going to tell all my friends never to come back" he told her fairly well, and basically don't let the door hit you on the @$$ on the way out. i liked my job at DQ, but you couldn't pay me enough to work fast food EVER again ------------------ Steve Corbin Lambda Chi Alpha Theta Kappa Chapter Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech. |
Sorry I keep posting in this thread... but years dealing with the public just make you a little jaded. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
People do think they should get everything for free. Like it doesn't cost our store anything to get it. They think we make like 300% profit on everything. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif I really hate it when a customer will make 21 color copies (which are $.99/each) and then come to the counter and say they only wanted one, but the machine "just keep spitting them out". (Gee, don't hit that big RED button that says "Stop" or anything...) And they get bit-chey when they have to wait more than about 10 seconds for anything. Anyways.. today was like crazy people day at work, so I reread this thread to make me feel better. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I was actually thinking today about how rude people are, like they have no manners whatsoever. I'm talking about adults in their 30's. They grab things from you, get all huffy when they are inconvienced (God forbid), talk to people like they are dirt, etc. I feel bad for their children. ------------------ SilverTurtle Phi Beta Fraternity: National Professional Association for the Creative & Performing Arts |
Are there any coffeeshop horrors? Or bakery horrors? I'm either gonna work this summer in a coffeeshop or a bakery.

Customer: Do you have any more of this item? There are no more on the shelf. Me: No, I'm sorry. We're all out. Customer: Well, could you go check IN THE BACK for me? Me: There aren't any in the back. We keep those ALL STOCKED out front. What you see is what we have. Customer: Oh. Are you SURE there aren't any more in the back? Me: Yes. Customer: Well, could you go check? Me: No. We don't stock ANYTHING like that in the back. We restock our shelves with our deliveries EVERY morning. I'm sorry (*walk away quickly from the crazy lady before she can harass me further*) And it's only women that do this. Guys just accept it and move on with their life. ------------------ SilverTurtle Phi Beta Fraternity: National Professional Association for the Creative & Performing Arts [This message has been edited by SilverTurtle (edited June 18, 2001).] |
