I agree, 33girl. I think a lot of it was mostly a PR stunt to show how good greeks can be that we will come out with a unanimous "solution" to the problem. The other part of it was to be less liable hopefully. So, yeah, it was rushed and it is uneven for many groups. However, a consistent policy amongst all NPC groups probably won't happen. The NPC groups value their independence and autonomy and while they do agree on policies, rarely do they make hard and fast rules everyone has to follow. Rush would be an exception. But otherwise, NPC is there as a forum, not as a government over all the sororities.

By the way, College panhellenics are supposed ot be that way, too-a forum, not "above" all the sororities on campus, but made up by them. Too often, I see College PH's acting like they own the place and can make rules however they want and the sororities are at their mercy. well...that's another topic, maybe I'll start a new thread sometime.

33girl, I do agree with you that people with facilities polices are SOL. And it's not just mixers. It's mixers, philanthropy events, community service, anything. They can apparently do stuff at 3rd party vendors, but it seems to me that the facilities policy is a bit extremist. I'm pretty happy that we did the functions policy. I mean, after all, I've been to frat houses and most of them are pits. (NOT ALL, CALM DOWN http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif) Hopefully guys can keep nicer houses if they fall into these categories. I think the idea of mixing every week is too much and am glad some of my chapters have decided to do more elaborate, less frequent mixers. I know it won't work everywhere, and if a chapter says it won't work, it won't. But I bet if they try and are resourceful, they could http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I think if you have a question about the resolution ask your college Panhellenic. I know we received numerous copies of it and had about 2-3 workshops for the NPC and IFC social chairs/risk management chairs.
Your college PH is to implement NATIONAL NPC regulations, everything we do comes from NATIONAL NPC from quota to how to raise chapter total, they tell us what was agreed on by all the sororities and we do what works for us and NPC. Each campus has by-laws, but like chapter by-laws they cannot conflict with national policy.
I think the word isn't out beacuse it makes college PH look like they are bad guys, but we all have to abide by it and really is it any more strict than anyone's national policy? I know it is the same for us and hasn't bothered our socail life at all, we have just found different places to socialize.

My organization is not allowed to attend any closed socials or parties at a fraternity house. So, we go to a third party vendor. There has not been any problems with this rule and we do follow it. We do not try to get around the policy because that would just cause even more problems. I personally care more about my organization than to loss it over alcohol. I want to be able to come back here to vist after graduation.

The new policy also decreases some of the liabilty that is on our sorority if we were attending fraternity houses. I think that it is a good policy.

No one hear is saying the policy is bad per say. The idea of going dry contains more positives than negative of course, no one can deny that. The problem here is if it's working overall and being implemented properly. As you can see, there is a huge debate on that situation right now. Some schools are handling it ok, but some are not. No one said it had to be one unified policy for everyone everywhere, but that's the problem we are left with. Some schools will enforce rules more than others. Others will turn a blind eye to the greeks and let them fall apart; others will just let them figure out how to adjust on their own. I just think there should have been more involvement with the GLO's in the decision making and timeline of this policy.
