Weak thread... :-(

I disagree -its always nice to know who is who in Greekdom, especially when it comes to who might be running the United States next!!! I think that its a great topic for a thread.

Currently in the Bush White House, both Laura Bush, the First Lady and Lynn Cheney, the wife of VP Dick Cheney are Kappa Alpha Thetas. Barbara Bush was an alumnae initiate of Pi Beta Phi. :)

I second the "check out Ron Paul" sentiment.

There may be a candidate that actually makes sense, but I haven't seen anything to make me think it's this one.

Many if not most of the "controversial" things he advocates (abolishing various federal agencies, return to the gold standard, etc.) deal with things that fall under the aegis of Congress, not the President, so unless he can get a majority of Representatives and Senators to agree with him, something he hasn't achieved while in Congress, he'd be quite ineffective as President.

Hillary went to Wellesley, not Radcliffe.

I'd take an "ineffective" one over one who tries (successfully, alas) to extend the powers of the executive branch, Constitution be damned. I see one of the biggest problems in politics today as being the near-worship of the staus quo. The "things may be bad, but there is nothing we can do.That is the way things are" mentality means we get candidates who are afraid to be leaders, or advance radical ideas. I'm ready for someone to shake things up - if nothing else, maybe it will get other politicans to think - hey, I can dream - and start a real discussion about issues, as opposed to feeding the masses what the focus groups say they want to hear.

I wouldn't necessarily argue with that, although I think that much of what Paul wants to do based on his "constitutionalism" is not actually grounded in the Constitution.

But this is a discussion that belongs in News and Politics, not in a Greek Life thread about candidate's Greek connections.

I meant it was weak in that it sucks there aren't more greek candidates!

If Bloomberg gets in, we'll have a Phi Kappa Psi as well.

I keep thinking Cindy McCain is in a sorority for some reason? I know it isn't Theta. Alpha Chi Omega maybe?

You were right the first time, she's a Theta from USC (Southern Cal).

violetpretty 01-17-2008 01:34 AM

What is it with Republicans and Theta?

Ok, I feel slightly stupid I don't know the alum from my GLO! I had a gut feeling she was one, but when I went to double check she wasn't list on our notable Thetas list!

I have no idea what is up with the recent trend. I did want to add though that both of the Bush Twins, Barbara and Jenna were Thetas at UT-Austin and Yale.

SWTXBelle 01-17-2008 10:53 AM

Weren't they UT - Austin and Yale?
