There's an educated, well-thought out response somewhere in the middle.

By the way, there are tons of threads about the use of the word "frat". This thread's just one POV of many.

The explanation I received in college was: you wouldn't call your country a c**t so you shouldn't call your fraternity a frat. :D

I'm not going to deny fraternity members who wish others to not use "frat," but I have always thought that analogy to be ridiculous. The c-word is a dirty word in common vernacular, whereas frat does not carry the same connotation.

Regardless, I will never refer to a fraternity as a frat, but it is out of respect to those men who have expressed such. Other fraternity men don't care and call it a frat, frat brothers, etc. I think it depends on where you are from.

Didn't we just have this same discussion last week?

And last year and several times before.

I don't use the word "frat." Nor do I use "frat brother."

Some do, and that's OK, but personally I think it sounds demeaning.

As for the "c" word analogy -- it's silly.

Yes, we did, starting here.

Really.

And the "would you call your country . . . " comparison is still just as lame as it was last week, and last month, and last year, and the year before that . . . .
