Ok, I caught this tonight (honestly, this thread is what made me look for it :)), and I now love this show. I've always been a Johnny Galecki fan (and I love him on My Boys too, mu) and I liked Kaley on 8 Simple Rules and thought she was cute tonight, but my new favorite is the guy who plays Sheldon. Oh my god, what a crack up that kid is. I need to go to cbs.com now and see how many back episodes I can watch. :)

If CBS is of no help, you may want to try youtube. :) |

Please continue encouraging others to give this show a try!
I keep hearing talks that the show might be on it's way out, and I seriously hope that is not true. |

The way she acts towards the guys reminds me of "Beauty and the Geek". She doesn't act like she is all above them and, even though Sheldon irritates her, she's never mean or rude to them. |
Bumping because I recently learned that Jim Parsons (Sheldon) is a Pike.

Although the writers have said they didn't create Sheldon as having Asperger's (they just think of him as "Sheldony"), Jim Parsons has noted "I can say that he couldn't display more facets of it." But he's not a two-dimensional character, nor is he simply the butt of jokes. As annoying as he can be, the others -- Penny especially, perhaps -- still accept him like he is. |
My favorite comedy. :)
Right up there with Family Guy. ETA: As far as Asperber's and Sheldon, I see the traits in him and also see how he's just "Sheldony." All in all, it works with the show which is more than I can say for Vincent D'Onofrio's character on L&O: Criminal Intent. |
Aw, I love this show. I think Sheldon is simply incredibly eccentric. I loved him in the ball pit last week!

I love this show. DH wasn't impressed with the pilot but I stuck with it because of the Barenaked Ladies opening (anything they do a theme song for must be good, right?). But it definitely got its groove going and is a blast. One of the few shows I will literally LOL for.
Thanks for sharing MC. I had seen some interviews about the autism bit (that it isn't officially part of his character) but didn't know he was Greek! He really makes the show. |
We've watched this show since the pilot. Hubby (and I somewhat, via osmosis) are techie and scifi fans, and I love science, so we "get" a lot of what's going in. As a software engineer, he's worked with these types for eons.
There's an interesting article (with clips) about an episode of BBT with and without a laugh track. Some people will say "it's just not funny without a laugh track" or that it sounds awkward, but as a trained (but "local") actress, I think that is because the actors add the pauses to allow for the laugh track/audience (is it taped live??). Check it out for yourself. For the record, I am not a fan of laugh tracks. I think that it dumbs down the audience. http://www.geekologie.com/mt/mt-sear...logs=1&x=0&y=0 |
i've seen a few episodes, and i can see how the Sheldon character has some Asperger's traits. i liked both Penny and his role. something in the timbre of the others' voices annoys me, though.
side note: the initial draft of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) is posted up for review and comments at http://www.dsm5.org/Pages/Default.aspx until 4-20-10. some folks were just talking about it on my hometown forum. |

I'm curious as to what you thought of the non-laugh-track episode, if you had watched it. |
