yeah - but the "ownership" was actually done by NBC (under GE) and WWF inc. (publically-owned) . . . in this way, the shareholders definitely had a say as to what the final decision would be. The league sucked - few can argue that; it didn't get a chance to improve b/c people were losing money.
When you think about it, 30 million dollars is a drop in the bucket to GE, and really not even big money to WWF enterprises - certainly something that could be overcome. But when joe shareholder loses 10 bucks a share on 5000 shares of WWF stock . . . that's when it's time to pack up the trailer and call it a day.
