I think it was Mint Chocolate because it was the chapter that you looked up to, and you were in college to improve yourself. I'm probably saying this because when I was deciding on preference, I picked the house full of girls I wanted to grow to be like instead of the chapter that would have been safe.

Did you disguise anything about the school you attended?
Usually I'm pretty good about deciphering schools. But, I've been having a difficult time figuring out what university in a southern state would have had 11 chapters during the mid-90s...where at least one chapter has left since then and at least one chapter has begun. I've narrowed down a few campuses with numbers that are close...but not close enough of a match for me to be certain its that school. :o |
Sorry for the confusion -- Belgian Chocolate was the chapter with the girls I looked up to! Mint Chocolate Chip was the group I felt was friends who just wanted to hang out and have fun and bond and support each other! But like I said, it's not like the girls at Belgian Chocolate didn't share a strong bond or the Mint Chocolate Chip girls weren't worthy of admiration.
And no, I didn't disguise anything about the school I attended -- I wasn't very specific about when houses closed, opened, or were reinstated, but if I get more specific, you'll be able to figure it out pretty easily. They've been having a lot of problems with the Greek system there, and things have changed a lot anyway, so I don't want to be reinforcing any stereotypes when they're in the middle of trying to sort things out. I imagine some people can figure it out, but since I mentioned both good things and bad things about the chapters, which 1990s alumnae from our school would most probably recognize, I think it would be unkind of me to confirm any guesses or get any more specific about details. I'll update with the ending tomorrow late morning/early afternoon! |
Well then I mean the opposite of what I said before.

Okay, here's part of the reveal ...
I made my decision (which I'll get to later)...I ranked three houses. I realized that I really wanted ONE house, but I would put down all three. I would go to bid day for choices one and two. I wasn't sure what I would do if I got choice three, which was, of course, Strawberry. Bid Day came. I was given my envelope...girls already were screaming around me. I was just happy to have an envelope to open -- a third of my rush group wasn't even there, because they hadn't been matched or had dropped out after pref! But what name was inside? I held my breath and slid out the invite, holding my hand over the top...I started to peek, and I saw a crest... I had gotten my NUMBER ONE CHOICE! All of the girls RAN to their new houses...I was the first to reach mine...but which house was it? I can tell you that I NEVER regretted the choice, it was ABSOLUTELY the right one, and I am STILL proud to call myself a........ |

Final installment ... when I was making my choice, I thought about what I wanted out of college, and I also thought about which house's style was best for me. AOE2AlphaPhi got it right about my wanting to improve myself and challenge myself in college, and Fleur de Lis got it right about how great it is when pref is a celebration! Although I thought the sentiment at Mint Chocolate Chip was very sincere and sweet, I realized that the bond between sisters that I was seeing was between those sisters and didn't really include me yet, whereas I had already felt at home at Belgian Chocolate. Plus I knew I would have good friends at either house, but the girls at Belgian Chocolate were like role models too. My poor mother was SO afraid that she had unduly influenced my choice, but I told her that Belgian Chocolate was where I wanted to be, regardless of legacy. I ended up meeting so many great girls through Belgian Chocolate, and even more than that, I met so many great people on campus, because Belgian Chocolate was so well-respected by Greeks and non-Greeks alike. And although I never became president like poor Robin, I lived in the house for most of my time at school, I had a Belgian Chocolate little sis who did become president, I had Belgian Chocolate bridesmaids in my wedding, and I engage in good-natured rivalry with my mother-in-law, because on her campus, her sorority and Belgian Chocolate were big rivals in her day! And when I was a junior, I gave my own candlelight testimony at pref night, but even though many of us got a little teary, it still felt like a big celebration of Belgian Chocolate Love!
So I lived happily ever after as a Belgian Chocolate.... |
Oh...and I felt bad about the girl at Mint Chocolate Chip, but I saw her across the street a few days later, and before I could run over there to talk to her, she glared at me (I mean DAGGERS) and stalked off. I knew some really nice girls at Mint Chocolate Chip, and I know it's a very good chapter, so I felt a little bad that this girl felt I had rejected it or her. I never saw or heard from her again.

Yea Belgian Chocolate. Now, if we can just figure out where this Ben and Jerry's is located.:D
|
How long do we have to wait to see which sorority is which???
|
What a good end to a story! I was so nervous about the girl who preffed me at my second choice chapter not liking me after I decided not to put them first, but luckily we've become good friends anyway. Some of the other girls in the chapter haven't been as great though. Anyway, congratulations years later to you and Belgian Chocolate! Can you at least identify it for us?
