I'm confused; by the sound of your original post, it seemed like rush was already in progress. However, it now sounds like it hasn't started yet?

Navane,
To my knowledge Ole Miss has a round of "ice water parties" a month before recruitment actually starts that is no-frills/no releasing of PNMs that allows both the actives and the PNMs to get comfortable with the recruitment setting. To SEC veterans, do I have that right? |
Ohhhhh....ok, I get it. Thanks to the both of you for the explanation!

Go Lemon Meringue!!!

JWS is right. We had water parties on Aug 26 and then there's been pretty much only floor meetings since then and convocation is on Sunday in a week!!!! Sorry if I gave the wrong impression!
|
Convocation was tonight, and the sheer amount of girls in that building was amazing! I think someone said there were about 900 girls rushing? Wow.
I had to fill out an absentee form, which is really bumming me out. I have class from 5 to 7 on Thursday, which is day 2 of philanthropy and it's my short day of the two. The first party is at 430 and the day is supposed to be over around 7, so I pretty much won't be able to go to any. :( But it's a lab, and my bf is my partner, and I already told him we were going to be speedy so I could get out and go to the last house. My gamma chi said to go ahead and go to the first house, even if it is only for a few minutes, so at least I get to do something rush related on Thursday. Besides rank, of course! I'm so excited! My gamma chi's for my floor are holding a "wardrobe selection" meeting tomorrow so I'm not really that nervous about it! Expect the story from first round on Friday! HTC |
Good luck. please keep us posted, no matter what happens!
|
Good luck, HTC! Wow, these recruitment threads are addictive! :)

I'm not necessarily saying that you should skip class, but I know a girl who went through rush at UC Berkeley (which is insanely less competitive) who got dropped by the houses she missed on a round because she wasn't present for a very legit reason. I don't know if it was actually her personality but it was a little coincidental...but I'm just saying...at a really competitive school it might be wise to take the tiiiiny percentage of the grade.

From the Ole Miss Panhellenic recruitment rules:
8. Potential New Members should attend all academic classes, lab, and study groups. A POTENTIAL NEW MEMBER MAY NOT MISS AN ACADEMIC CLASS OR LAB FOR THE PURPOSE OF ATTENDING A RECRUITMENT-RELATED FUNCTION. IF SHE DOES, SHE WILL BE RELEASED FROM FORMAL RECRUITMENT AND BE INELIGABLE TO SIGN A BID CARD UNTIL THE FOLLOWING SEMESETER. If there is a conflict between Recruitment activities and academic requirements, the Potential New Member should contact the Panhellenic Council so that an excuse may be sent to the sororities. http://www.olemiss.edu/greeks/PHC/rules.htm |

Hope that makes sense. I'm not sure if other schools handle it the same way. |
Yay, a new R thread! Love the nicknames!

I had a PNM in my group who missed round 3. She had a full schedule of six chapters with high retention rates (i.e. PHA forces them to cut more women per release figures). She would have fit well in any of them IMO. Pref comes around and she was cut from 5 of the 6 chapters that she would have attended round 3 parties. I was really nervous about giving her the schedule, worried that she'd be upset. Fortunately, it was her favorite, and the chapter obviously felt the same way about her, since she got a bid there! I'm sure she would have had a full schedule for pref if she had attended round 3, but the end result would have been the same. |
