Man For Change, it is not that people don't want to help those on their journey to Greekdom because SOME do. But for many of us, we've been on the 'Net long enough to be wary of folks who come on here asking membership related questions. Many of our orgs have a zero tolerance policy for those types of questions which translates to message boards. Not only that but the whole "I don't want to be paper. Pledge me!!! mentality/topic" is tired and those who come on here expressing those sentiments seem more fixated with that aspect of the Greek journey than what really matters in Greek life -- scholarship, service, and brother/sisterhood. So yes you got clowned, snarked, etc. for this topic. If you look in the Omega forum, the paper/pledge sentiments are rampant. |
Man of Change:
I agree with CrimsonTide4. There are some questions, though innocent to us, are offensive or viewed as questions that should not be asked on this forum. Whether you are greek or an outsider. Some questions will get your head bitten off, LOLOL. AS you can clearly see. Some folks are cool about it like Wolfman and CrimsonTide4, but others will get on you and discourage you at the first glimpse of the question. I will not call any names out. It is plain and simple to see. Just be easy with the questions, we all have questions. Especially as an outsider like we are, it is almost like we are walking on egg shells. So we have to be extra careful with our questions. |

True
CrimsonTide4,
No clowning here. I must have thick skin or a thick skull but nonetheless I'm on this forum just like errrbody else. I got it. Now, how do you feel about giving money to family members? Do you consider it a loan or charity? Officers in the military are held to a higher standard than our enlisted who really do the work to make our missions successful. Some in my family think I hit the lottery so they ask for money all the time. Has anyone run into this problem? |

I thought I was the only one that used that word HAHAHAH....OK. Treblk....Whats wrong. LOL. So you are one of the mean ones? Well stop that and be nice:o. And as far as calling someone out....No need. Everyone who is reading this forum can see who it is. :D |
NEOSOUL..........All of the questions that I would ask...can and would be asked in person. Some times it really depends on your availability to the people who you should direct the questions to. Like if you are new in an area like I am, you do now have access to certain people to ask certain questions. No one knows you. LOL. So you cant just walk up to a random greek and start askig them greek targeted questions. How would you react if a random person came and stoped you in Walmart and start asking you certain things? So that is why forums are the next best thing. It is very discrete and you do not have to worry about embaressing yourself in public. Although this is public. But also if you have a really good understanding of what it is you are looking for in the greek world, you will learn how people feel about discretion and to be careful with your questions. Some may be offended and some are cool with it. But you never know. :D

Dear sixxxshoooter,
Stop while you're ahead. Or at least NOT SO FAR behind. The entertainment value of interests telling other interests what to do/how to act wears off quickly. Love, AF (NPCer, Long time NPHC forum reader...cause they know what's going on.:)) |
OK. If it seemed like I was telling people what to do then, My bad. I dont mean to offend anyone if I am. I was just trying to be helpful to the man. Before ever posted here, I read alot and saw alot of questions. I have seen people get blasted out for simple things. Well it seemed simple. Didnt require some of the responses that I saw. So I figured I would warn my fellow brother that way he doesnt have to catch that heat.
But I see what you are saying AlphaFrog. I will be easy. LOL. didnt know I was stirring things up. I appreciate the love. Sixxxshoooter |

Now this cousin's mother was my first cousin and she was more like an older sister. So I never minded offereing her money when she needed it, because she looked out for me when I was growing up. I think I may have mentioned this before on GC, the brother of the aforementioned cousin asked if he could use my daughter's info to get his phone turned back on.:eek: He even called my daughter to ask for money, because he knew better than to call me. |
And I will say for the umpteenth time. Some of our orgs have strict rules about what we can and cannot say to a prospect about intake, and when and where we can say it. The internet is strictly forbidden. And even in-person is forbidden in some orgs. And there are valid reasons for this.
One example is a few years ago a prospect was turned down by her org of choice. She filed a lawsuit. Her case? That a member of the org had given her info and encouragement on a message board that implied she should have no problem being accepted since she had the GPA, service, etc.--the member was just trying to be nice, because she herself was a neo. The prospect had printed out the MB conversation to prove her point. Luckily the org had a better attorney and the case did not go to court. But rules were put in place to prevent it from happening again. None of us want to risk losing our pins behind a propect's curiousity when there are so many other places to do research beginning with out national websites and authorized history books. So for many of us, it is not a matter of being mean, it is a matter of following our own protocol. |
Worth repeating a few more times...
