I'm involved in:
Beta Sigma Phi at the chapter and city level (i'm including it here because it's not an NPC college sorority) Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity American Diabetes Association Multiple Sclerosis Society I volunteered over the summer at the Senior Citizens's Center's ADult Day care/center for creative living I'm wanting to join the Junior League here. Those of you that are members of your local Junior League, how have you enjoyed it? Has it been a worthwhile experience for you thus far? How involved is the membership process? Thanks. |
Since this is my only Alpha Phi Outlet since nothing is around me any longer i stay active on here ( 50%) of the time...i may not post a lot , but i do read:
I am and involved with the church: Sunday School teacher ASltar guild Womans Ministries Greeter/lector Of course i am very active in my Masonic work: Eastern Star Jobs Daughters and Rainbow i rejoined Beta Sigma Phi here in town My sons Cub Scouts and his sports teams ( Little League and Soccor)--on board for those I am active in his PTA at his elem school and now since we transferred him to private school i am looking to be active at St. Timothys (were we go to church at too) even more I would love to be active in Junior League but we dont have a chapter here fo that |
I have served with my church in California as a Deacon
I have also served with my church in my current location as a Deacon In my current city where I reside: I serve with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Committee and their African American women's breast cancer collaborative. I was working on the American Heart Association heart walk and their Cultural Health Initiatives I can easily serve on the Urban League, but I am not feeling that right now. There is a stronger NAACP in this area And the local YMCA has a girl's mentorship program My local university has several opportunities to serve. As a result, the Faculty Senate is recommending that all matriculating undergraduates must serve a minimum of 300 hours of community service as a graduation requirement. I have not seen the formal language so this is heresay. |
Other organizations I'm involved in
I am a member of:
The Junior League The Links, Incorporated And I help with fundraising and/or serve on the Board for a few other organizations including Girls, Inc; The Opera Company; and Art Sanctuary (founded by author Lorene Cary). Remember to watch Star Jones today on Court TV! |
I'm a very active member of the Jaycees. I'm VP of my chapter this year.
|
I'm active in my church, too. AlphaFrog, I just love handbells, but my group meets at the same time as our handbell group. :(
I'm also active in several historical groups, from getting elementary students interested to minor reenacting to volunteering at the library. Vounteer counseling. I'm in the process of training to read for the blind. |
I did some volunteer work with my niece's Sparks group in Girl Guides (that's Girl "Scouts" for my American cousins ;) )
It was fun at the time. |
I wish I was involved in another organization, i'm pretty far from my school, and I tried to help out here at Manhattan, but the local sororities didn't really want to hear what I had to say... I think they were too overwhelmed by what I said they had to do... oh well, their loss not mine. :o
