OK, so I've gotten some pm's about this so somebody is reading..:o

I guess with the excitement of sorority rush at the SEC schools, this is kind of back burner.

Anyway, summer rushing begins.

The first thing he got invited to was an Astros Game with 2 other rushees and the rush captains for Boon. The seats were in the Diamond Section, which for those who don't know, is swanky. This was very impressive to my son who is a huge Astros fan. He had a great time and really got to know the guys. They must have liked him because the invited him to stay with them for orientation, which is a week long.

When he went up for orientation, the Boons that he was staying with encouraged him to go to other fraternity events so that he could tell what he wanted to do. I'm sure they knew that he was pretty set on going Boon, so they weren't taking much of a chance.

He was wined and dined by a number of other fraternities and went to many "late nights" (each fraternity has parties during all of the orientations, this way they can meet the guys as they come to college town, and because many kids have to go to summer school, there is something going on all the time) He also played a round of golf with one group that he ended up really liking, I'll call them Flounder. He thought that if things didn't work out with Boon, he might go Flounder.

Back home, he started getting calls to come to events back in college town, like foam parties and bar tabs, so when he could, he would drive back. I got a little sick of all the trips back and forth, but you do what you've got to do, I guess:rolleyes:

There were also events that were planned away from college town, like ranch parties and what I guess you'd call ball game weekends. These are weekend long events, the ranch parties are self explanatory, the ball game things were that a fraternity rented hotel rooms and had tickets for all the rushees and it was a weekend long party. These were held by other fraternities, Flounder, Chip, and Bluto (sorry had to get that in there, but it in no way reflects on the fraternity;))

These were all fun, but what my son looked forward to the most was the Boon New Orleans trip. More on that later.

Hi there srmom! I've been enjoying your thread. My Phi Delt son went through spring rush earlier this year and was initiated in April. Fraternity rush has it's own share of drama for our sons. Thanks for sharing his story!

hahaha, girls can be weird sometimes

I'm reading! I'm still confused on how fraternity rush works, but I think I'm starting to understand it a little better.

I'm reading! I always lean towards Kappa Sig and Sigma Chi, so maybe...

Can't wait to see where he finds his home!

The much anticipated New Orleans weekend finally arrived. It would happen like this - Friday night, the Boons held a party downtown in our hometown where many actives, rushees, and invited girls met up. From there, the rushees spent the night at various houses of actives. In the morning, they all went to get on the busses that would take them to New Orleans.

The rushees were told that the trip was an opportunity to get to know each other because the guys that were invited were likely to be receiving bids. By this time, the rushees should have already met a bunch of actives, so this weekend was the chance to see if this group of rushees was who you'd want to be with during pledgeship and all it entails. These would be the guys that you'd likely be friends with all through college and beyond. (BTW, I think that is a really smart rush move)

They drove to New Orleans where they had rented a place by Bourbon Street, they had a blues band playing, and the party started. I don't have all the details of how the night went, but suffice it to say that my son looked a wee bit worse for the wear the next night when he got home- But he was smiling and happy.

This was it - he was suiciding (I guess you'd say) Boon.

From then on he politely declined invitations from any other fraternities. This caused a bit of friction with his good friends from high school that had all pretty much decided to pledge Hoover. But, everyone has to do what is right for them, not somebody else.:o

ooh, i hope this doesn't take a crazy twist.

Ok, I need to wrap this up-

Summer is reaching an end. There were still parties being held, but my son, who was finishing a summer school class, could only attend a few. Of course, he chose to only attend Boon events. Each time he went to college town, he stayed with some Boon actives who are awesome:) (that is mom talking - honestly, those guys have been wonderful to my son!)

They told my son that he had to be sure to attend a certain weekend, which luckily was the weekend after his final. So, Thursday he left for college town. There were parties each night where he saw more of the actives, but also, the guys he would pledge with. He called me on Friday and said that he was headed to the Salvation Army to buy a suit. The rushees had decided to get "suited up" for the party Saturday night.

Well, it was quite a party! This was the night that bids were extended!!!

My son did not have to even think about it.... He immediately signed his card, and is now a pledge of.........

The Kappa Alpha Order!!!!!!!

Woohoo! This is very special to me because all of my cousins (including my favorite, who is like my brother) and my uncle were all members of this fraternity at this campus! Since, my husband's fraternity is no longer on campus at this time, this is the closest thing to legacy and I couldn't be happier!
