...don't let btb87 fool yall. She is a "Florida gangsta'" for real. btb87 has been working a 4-day week for a long time now. Policy has only just now adjusted. :)

I have the option of a 4-day workweek.

I, too, work at a community college and we have the option of working a 4-day work week during the summer months (no classes on Fridays). For a couple years it was do-able, but my kids' activities increased over the years and I found that my days were becoming more and more tightly book-ended by sports, dance lessons, etc. Now I can't even think about working a 10-hour day, but it's still wonderful that so many people have the option of Fridays off because they offer a wonderful "down" day for me. I can come in a little late, get in a good walk, handle my personal business, and I schedule all of my appointments, lunch with friends, etc. on Fridays because there are no meetings or anything to work around. I look forward to it all week because I know that if I get behind in any area I will be able to play catch-up on Friday and not have stuff hanging over me all weekend. Although I don't have the day "off," per se, it's still a wonderful, relaxing day.

In essence, some people will love the 4/40 schedule and take advantage of it by working a 4-day work week, while others, like me, won't work the 4-day work week, but will still find there are many advantages.

You know, I'm just now seeing this.

And since I have tomorrow off, don't think I can't use my long weekend to come up there and give you a beatdown.

We have that option here as well. I can't take advantage of it due to child care issues, but when she is with her dad, I tend to come in later and stay later b/c that is easier on me. Several coworkers have a 4 day schedule, and it works out well for them. They use the off day, as others have stated, as time to get errands done, etc. I find Mondays and Fridays to be the best time to catch up on work b/c its so quiet here, 1/4 of the staff is probably off. I may try that this summer to see if that is doable for me (a girl NEEDS her sleep), but I'd pick an off day to be off (tues. through thurs, every one takes Mon or Fri off).
I think the key is to be flexible and to plan.

I work a four day week every other week. My hours are 6:30AM-4PM. I work 9 hour days, have 1 eight hour day and have every other Friday off. It took me a while to do it because I couldn't imagine working 9 hours in a day, but its nothing. Besides, my job gives each employee 3 admin hours per week for fitness and I do mine an hour before I leave.

Tomorrow is my Friday off :D

This must be the norm for universities. I was at Jackson St yesterday and all the offices were closed, class was not in session. I'm glad we didn't make a blank trip and was able to handle some business. :D
