I always wanted to see a movie adaptation of J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye.

Unfortunately, many movie adaptations are way worse than the original books. Terrible casting and literary license can ruin the effects of a great story sometimes.

All this time

I read The Giver for the first time when I was 7, and it went waaaaaaay over my head (looking back, what was I doing reading such a deep story in 2nd grade???).
But it was in the car on a family road trip and I finally picked it up again when I was in undergrad. Shoot, I was crying by the end of it!! It is so good! I can't believe it's taken so long to get a movie underway. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435651/)

My only concern is that it is the type of book that can easily be Disney-fied and turned cheesy. Let's hope not *Crossing my fingers*.

A Wrinkle in a Time. Althought they made a televison version, this book deserves a major motion picture deal. Read it in the fifth grade and it is still my favorite book.

I love Madeline L'engle, all of her books. I really like A Ring of Endless Light.

I thought this was already a movie...I looked it up on imdb.com (http://imdb.com/title/tt0290382/) apparently it was a TV movie, but it seems like it wasn't adapted well. But that could be a whole 'nother thread: movies that insulted the greatness of their books!

Excellent book...but soooo difficult to adapt due to some pretty...er...tough parts to adapt for an audience. They would probably need to rate it PG13 or R at the minimum if they stay faithful to the book.
