Circularizing the Fraternity

Circularizing the Fraternity is prohibited under Code IX-5 of the Stat Code:

"No member or Unit of the Fraternity shall circularize the membership of the Fraternity, or any part thereof, for any reason, business, personal, or otherwise, without first obtaining the consent of the Grand High Zeta. General Fraternity executive or administrative communications, regular Alumni Association communications, or approved Chapter publications shall not be affected by this section."

I like the idea of a Lambda Chi Craigslist but I always have been a radical (from Berkeley no less). Perhaps this is yet another issue for us to chat about in Memphis.

Yep, theres the legal. Too bad, I was almost finished with my layout. I'm not old enough to fight with nationals, still doing my undergrad, so ill leave this all to you alumni.

The idea of a sorta LCA fan page is a very nice idea in my opinion, a sorta unofficial place to get lca news and trade information.

I will be at Memphis this year. Going to register this afternoon.

Keep me posted, and I will stay on this task.

Don't trash it!!!

Please don't trash that layout. We may get lucky and get a green light for the project. I think that it is a super idea if done right and it could do some good things for our Brothers. For example, I needed to find a house sitter last week to mind the house this summer for two months. How many brothers would like a rent free two month stay in southern California in a 3,400 square foot house? Our little craigslist sort of web site would have been a great tool.

Definition of Circularizing?

To my way of thinking, "circularizing" is sending someone unsolicited (junk) mail. This proposed directory, to me at least, is an entirely different concept.

If you just mention it in the C&C, you're not sending anyone anything that they don't already get. You're just making them aware of an opportunity, of which they can take advantage or not at their option.

If there is to be a forum, though, I would limit it strictly to the discussion of services offered on that site, such as "Joe Blow worked on my refrigerator and he did a good job," not anything that would be or could be seen as competing with GreekChat.

As john said, do not trash it!!!

Send to jason pearce and see what he thinks!
Listed on LXA IHQ thread.

There are many great ideas that come from Brothers as we are the people who make up and run LXA.

"The dumbest question is the one never asked", Ms. Cortwright, my 4 th grade teacher in grade school!:D

Keep it, build on it and present it!

It is as good idea so that it can be updated as the mentoring program. But, I wonder if that is an over lapping or an adjunct to it?

Just a thought.

If it was more evident it may help.

Got to give a try yes?

http://osuchoppers.com/applications/lcabn/

Take a look. Comments, praise, criticisms, hatred, please post or message me. It is not active, as the front page states, it has been crippled so no one can actually register. Its primative as of yet. The content management system I am using is VERY powerful, many many things can be done with it.

If someone would like to forward this to whom ever it may concern at nationals on my behalf, I would appreciate it.

I have no problem hosting, and maintaining it, but the content and user base is totally up to those who want to use it.

Thanks,
John

Amazing...

Simply amazing what we can do with technology now.

Suggestion, maybe be able to organize it by state?

dever860 04-17-2007 05:15 PM

Sort by state for which the directory, or the classifieds? The directory you can search by state.

You have no idea how much of a pain in the ass it is to add categories, for both. Granted I am a youngin and take for granted the days when everything had to be done by hand online... No complaints. This is all free software that some very nice people spent hours of their time so anyone can use it.

While we are waiting, I am still open to suggestions on the design layout, and the content. Think big, and we can work from there. I have a lot of good ideas myself, but I am curious as to what people would actually use.

I still need to email nationals. I might get around to doing that this evening. Midterms and rush have been getting in my way.
