I can't imagine college finals going till mid June, that's so strange for me to think of!

You could squeeze in a 6-week NM period before spring finals. Most, if not all, NPC orgs have adopted NM periods of 6-8 weeks. Still, juggling NM obligations, late-semester academic work, other activities, a social life, and sleep (!) would be tough.

At my current school, we have exctly 6 weeks of school left, including finals, so there is no way unless someone got permission to shorten the NM period, that it could be done.

At my old school...if a NM class was to start this week it could probably get done but it would be a squeeze and very very tough, one that I wouldn't want to put anyone through.

Well, the first day of rush has finally arrived (this weekend seemed to drag on forever)! It's going to be a hectic day for me... class from 10-1, work until 3:30, then rushing back up to my dorm to change, and heading on over to the sorority houses!

Some of you have probably guessed where I'm rushing by now, and that's okay, since I know there are probably only a handful of schools that are holding rush this late in the year. If you want to PM me about this, that's fine, but please just don't post it here so I can keep some discretion! Not that I plan to trash-talk any of the chapters here, but still. :)

I'm rushing with my roommate and two of my good friends--one of whom is in my rush group, so that'll be fun. We're all second years, so I know that the odds are slightly against us, but we'll just see how it goes. Also, having been here for almost two years, I inevitably have heard a lot of stories and rumors about each of the chapters... it'll be hard to go in without any preconceived notions, but I'm going to try my hardest to keep an open mind!

Well, with all that said, it's time for a shower and breakfast... I'm in for a long day!

Thanks for all the support guys!

Sounds like you're going into recruitment with a great mindset, I'm sure you'll do wonderfully! Best of luck to you and I can't wait to hear your story:D
And for the record I have no idea where you're going to school!

PS: Being a sophomore isn't so bad, especially if your recruitment isn't super competitive. You've gotten to know yourself a little bit better and will hopefully be able to interact better with all the sisters. Don't let it bother you and hopefully it'll be a non-issue! Good luck again!!!:)

Good luck on recruitment! I can't wait to hear your story. And don't worry about being a sophomore; my school is not that competitive, and we just initiated a couple of sophomores :) Just maintain that great mindset you already have, and I hope everything works out for you!

However, it makes it 10000 times easier to find a cute white dress and shoes!

FSUZeta 04-09-2007 04:04 PM

speaking of which- i was in our mall today and GAP had three very suitable white dresses in their front window.

a few weeks ago when daughter was home for spring break, we saw a darling white dress at j.crew, so ladies, if you need a white dress, they are out there!!

best wishes for a fun evening sundance.can't wait to see an update!

Slightly off topic, but I just can't help myself...I have that dress! (at least odds are in my favor that it's the same one) I wore it for Easter Mass yesterday and I'm going to be wearing it this weekend for my initiation:D!! It's pretty adorable if I do say so myself:rolleyes:
Also, if you're more well off than my poor college-student self head to Lily Pulitzer, they have a store next to the J. Crew where I got my dress so I went in for fun and they have some of the most amazingly wonderful white dresses...if only I had the time for a job while at school:o
Anywho, hijack over! Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Well, I finally got back from my first day of rush! It was pretty exhausting visiting 8 houses after having class and work, but it was still a lot of fun!

I met all the girls that were rushing at around 4:30pm. We divided up into groups and then headed over to the sorority houses to visit all of the chapters! Here's how it went down:

(Using planets for my code names, just a reminder :D)

The first house I went to was Uranus. I liked the girls that I talked to a lot, and we had some pretty good conversations... but I don't know if I'd exactly fit in there. We also got a house tour, and it was gorgeous!

Then I went to Earth. I actually knew the girl I talked to from somewhere, so that was really cool. However, I didn't seem to click much with the second girl I talked to. The girls were all very nice, though, and I wouldn't mind going back for a second look.

Next up was Jupiter. I really liked them! Their house (or what we saw of it--we just stayed in the living room) was beautiful, and even though I didn't get to talk to many of the girls, it was only because I had a good conversation with the girl I was talking to. However, I got a vibe that I liked them more than they liked me!

After that, we went to the Neptune house. Again, had some great conversation, but I didn't feel like I fit in very much with these girls. I know it's just a first impression, but I didn't feel like these particular girls would become my best friends or anything.

Then we got a break!! We got snacks and water, and chitchatted with our friends from other groups. The break ended way too soon, though ;)

Our first house for the second half was Saturn. This house wasn't particularly my favorite... even though we didn't talk about the usual things like name and major and where we're from, I still felt like some of the conversation was forced or fake. I really didn't feel like I would fit in at that house.

Up next was Venus. Our conversations took place in the most amazing setting! It made meeting these girls so much better. Everyone was so sweet and nice, and I enjoyed getting to know them.

Then we went to Mercury--there were so many people talking at the same time in the same little room, so I had to yell and could hardly hear the girls I talked to. I felt like I didn't get to know them enough, which was pretty sad because I liked this house.

And then our last house--Mars! I really liked this one... their house was cozy and nice, and I seemed to have a lot in common with the girls. This house is definitely somewhere on the top of my list!

After that was a final meeting, where we just went over what the rest of the week was like... and we were free! Went back to the dorms, pigged out with my friends, and sat with our phones in our hands waiting for calls!

I've gotten five calls, to:

Earth
Mars
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune

The three I didn't get were all ones that I liked, so that was a bit disappointing. I have a mandatory meeting tomorrow that's going to be hard to get out of, so I'm really stressed about trying to work everything around each other.

It's getting pretty late so I doubt I'll be getting any more calls. 5/8 ain't bad! :)

I'm exhausted, so I've gotta try to start some homework that's due on Wednesday, and then get to sleep. Another long day tomorrow!

P.S. I went to the JCrew site while bored at work, and yes, the dresses are so cute! I definitely need to stop by there and try them on. :p

Buttonz 04-10-2007 07:36 AM

Seems like you had a pretty good day, and 5 out of 8 isn't to bad at all!

Good luck :)

FSUZeta 04-10-2007 08:43 AM

five out of eight is super!! good luck for the next round.

Ocalagirl 04-10-2007 11:19 AM

Good luck! 5 out 8 is really good (though I don't know how it works where you're going), but it sounds good!! Great house descriptions without revealing too much. Hope everything goes great today and I know how it is to run between job and school, but hang in there. And thanks for posting...it definitely gives us something to read until fall recruitment rolls around.
