The Delta Upsilon fraternity chapter at my school has light up badge on their house. I've always thought it was cool.

It looks like this is a picture of IU's DZ with their light lit up, on the left:

those are cool!!!
thanks so much for the pictures! |
Yes, thanks for the pictures.
I know this is probably a dumb question to the OP, but did you contact your HQ or IHQ? The two Theta ones look identical which makes me wonder if maybe they're something you'd get internally, rather than having one made. ETA: reading over it, I realize that it seems pretty stupid to point out that something modeled on the same pin would be identical; of course it would. But they even appear to be the same size, which probably wouldn't happen if they were made locally. |

You may remember that the whole Sigma Chi Badge [The House on Woodlawn Avenue] was one large light. [Sorry, don't have a picture of it.] Here is another example. The Pi Beta Phi house at Kentucky with their Arrow. http://www.uky.edu/CampusGuide/images/0123.jpeg |
The houses at Brenau Univ. have lights in the shape of badges. Brenau also had a chapter of Chi Omega that closed a few years ago. Perhaps you could locate that house light and acquire it for your chapter.

The AXO House at Arkansas had a gorgeous pin light with big bulbs for each pearl!

I just took a picture of my daughter in front of my house with the giant key in the background.
I'd post it, but my daughter is in the picture and I'd cut out too much of the house if I edited her out!:( |

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!! :)
I looked in our House Corp records--it was a gift from our founding sisters in1987. In the records I have, we have no mention of where it was made or by whom. I also spoke with our housemother tonight (she was instrumental in bring Chi Omega to Hanover's campus) and she also mentioned that it was a gift from the girls and that she has no idea where it came from. Like many of you, she suggested that I contact our Executive Headquarters, which I will do tomorrow. Thanks again for your help. I absolutely love our pin light--on a campus with identical (college-owned) houses, it is the only thing that identifies us as Chi Omegas! Luckily we still have one, it's just in such a state of disrepair that I'm hesitant to plug it in--I'm afraid the girls will set the house on fire!! Once I find the information, I will be sure to post it on here--I think there may be some other pin lights ordered in the near future. ;) |
hanover_xo, thanks so much for this thread. I never knew "pin lights" existed.
Since the picture of the KAT pin light was posted, I was hoping to find an ADPi one.. and luckily, we have a chapter at Hanover!! (yes... i am a nerd!) http://www.adpi-phichapter.org/ A picture of their house is on the front page :) |
Pin Lights
If it is just the electrical part that is in disrepair, any electrician could rewire it and put in new light bulb sockets.

These are so beautiful! I've never seen anything like it before. What a great idea.

We have one in our Storage Room, but ever since we were forced into a suite, we don't use it. Part of our Senior Project was refinishing it, and I think it's used for Recruitment now.
Ours was made like HBADPi said her house's was. |
