I think in the new millenium, there is no excuse for this because of the technology we now have available for research (internet). However, with older multicultural and Latina/o greek organizations (those founded prior to the early 1990s), it was extremely RARE for one organization to have even *HEARD* about another (let alone "copy" them) because they were generally spread out in different parts of the country. Clearly, the only way to find out about all other MCGLOs or LGLOs in those days would have been to write a letter or make a phone call of inquiry to every single university in America, and no one was going to do that! One simply needs to think about history to understand this (but I believe a lot of people choose to ignore that and draw conclusions based on rumor).
In the case of these ladies at Cal, however, I find it hard to believe they didn't bother to do any research as to which organizations were already in existence. It could have been easily done.
