I saw it and it wasn't that great. LOL.

The end of the step was the best part.

Dammit!

Dang it, Viacom! Always jacking with folks. Try this one, or conduct your own search on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jg2l2ZE-vYw

@ DSTCHAOS: I'll admit that it didn't amaze me, but it was cool enough to get Beyonce's attention at TRL, one of the highest rated shows on MTV. And with the YouTube publicity, I bet thousands of girls know about OPB for real. Folks can hate, but that was some ingenius publicity for their org.

And what exactly do they know about them? That they stepped for Beyonce.

I hope that's not a recruitment tool..."come join our sorority cause we stepped for Beyonce!"

Not recruitment, just exposure. It's a harsh reality, but a lot of youngsters pay attention to the fun stuff, then they learn about our community involvement. It's up to our orgs to weed out "ooh! I wanna step" interests from the sincere interests that recognize that work goes hand-in-hand with the "fun" stuff.

Honestly, I had not heard of Omega Phi Beta until that TRL appearance, but I am aware of them now. Same thing for the young women that might be the future for their organization.

I do tend to hate step shows. :p

Watched it.

To me, none of the teams they featured were all that great. I think if MTV would have showed more of their shows, I think I would have gotten a better feel of how they step.

I believe that OPB won because those girls, especially the step mistress, was so focused and so hyped that it helped their chances in winning.

No disrespect to the Zetas, but they came on as cocky and when they lost, sore losers. They should have had better attitudes about the whole situation.

The Sigma's daughter was a cutie! :D

Who won first place in the fraternities? And where were the sorors? :p

Having gone to the show, yes, you wouldve gotten a MUCH better feel of how each team stepped. from this show, it ALL seemed mediocre. if you ask me, they showed the "worst" of OPB's performance (the CD skipping, which no one in the crowd even noticed when i was there) and skipped a lot of the stuff that helped them win. on the other hand, the show aired only a clip of the Zeta's show, which, wasn't all that great to be a winning performance. they DID talk a lot of smack and continued to after they lost. its one thing to talk yourself up beforehand, but you really cant talk after you lose...

the Alphas won 1st place for the fraternities. there were 2 Alpha teams, i wanna say the A-Team won.

Sororities: AKA, Zetas, OPB
Fraternities: Alphas (2), Sigmas (2), Ques, Kappas (2)

It was a long show, and i think the show hit a few points of "who cares?" 1. after OPB went (and apparent that they would win) 2. after one of the kappa teams went and dropped mad canes 3. after the alphas performed. it just felt like more and more people were inattentive to the performances (which is probably why the Sigmas that performed from Houston felt like the crowd wasnt hyped - wasnt them, it was just the show was LONG AS HAYLE).

ETA: oh yeah, the OPB stepmistress is pretty intense and she did seemed very focused on letting people know who exactly OPB was and what they were all about. guess she did her job right.

TotallyWicked 02-19-2007 02:23 AM

what was the Sigma saying to the crowd..they muted that entire part that it was hard to follow.

If that's the look you're going for....

I missed most of it! I'm sure it's coming on again, so I'll watch for it.

The performances were too short to be amazed.

I was disappointed in the Zetas for all that trash talking after the decision. I know it was their opinion, but to call someone else's performance "basura" was really bitter. That probably gave someone a bad first impression of Zeta when they had a great chance to shine despite the loss.

Soror tld221, thanks for the insight. To sit through seven fraternities and then three sororities is a bit much, especially if there might have been a musical performance or an exhibition step.

MeezDiscreet 02-19-2007 01:05 PM

So the sigmas are from my undergrad and they win a LOT of shows! They also compete a lot so I've seen the show 50=11 times.

The thing that has always bothered me about them, as well as "all-star teams" is that there comes a point in every frat/soror's life where we have to move past the collegiate scene.

None the less, some of the Sigmas are really cool guys and Jason's baby is soooo adorable! (I was just mad that his girl didn't seem to be aware of the fact that she was on t.v. so she felt no need to do something with her hair! and their apt!!)

Why are folks running around calling themselves Divas? I soooo hate that word whether it's followed by "Delta Sigma Theta" or "Omega Phi Beta."
